More on the Buick sign for 1101 N. Broadway:

According to the 1949 Sanborn Maps, the four-story structure was originally
occupied by the Regional Offices of the Veteran’s Administration. Later, the
building became the automobile show room for a Pontiac dealership; joining the
family of car dealerships and auto repair businesses along what is now known as
the Automobile Alley Historic District. Historic photographs show the building in
1949 and 1959 returned to offices, including a US Army recruitment station.
During that period, it appears the transoms over the original storefront were
infilled with an opaque material and some of the overhead doors on the street
level replaced with brick infill or storefront.

Keep in mind that a $2.2 million building permit was recently issued for 1101 N. Broadway and the plan is to completely remodel the interior, primarily for office space, with some retail at street level.

Also, the proposed parking garage to the immediate west will be slightly modified to not have elevated walkways between it and 1101 -- just a short sidewalk at ground level.

That change has been approved by the design committee so I suspect that garage will get started soon, so it will be available for 1101 tenants.

They've started working on the interior, I noticed today.

And it stands to reason, as the rest of AA is filling up so quickly with more retail faster than I would've hoped, that 1100 and 1101 will also have some good street level retail.

Especially if served by a modern streetcar...

That totally rocks! Love neon and the other ones that have gone back in. Very excited about this!

    Yes, this is incredibly cool.

I'm also very excited to see 1101 come back to life, as that is a very highly visible corner.

Further, this massive neon sign will serve as a northern anchor for the district, and a gateway to the south.

The MidtownR people are also busy working on plans to renovate the building directly across Broadway, 1100. I'm sure there will be some sort of neon planned there as well, with more to come with new tenants up and down the strip.

I bet they have a lease or two signed for 1101 but I don't know who it may be.

If they are underway, I'll keep my eyes on the permits.

I really like all the neon in AA! It definitely gives it a vintage feel and look, but with a modern twist. I love the cool vibe and energy of the district!

I was thinking that 1101 N. Broadway had its own thread, but, no it's only on the general AA one.

This building really, really, really deserves it's own thread!

Thought I'd re-post some of MidtownR's pics, just to remind us of this great building.

Agree! Very urban, semi gritty for these two concepts! As Betts was saying in another thread they are looking to open in OKC but are waiting for the "right" location. I have to say, I think we have a winner in AA

Will look great with the giant Buick sign.

Man oh man, that building is going to be a star.

Does anyone know if they've starting scouting for tenants yet?

I've heard they may already have a restaurant lined up from the ground floor but there is room for more than that.

The rest will be office space.

    What are those people doing?

I'll take a stab at my own question -- I'll guess that they're putting up Christmas lighting.

Thanks Will for stepping out into the chilly temps to take some photos.

I don't normally do the drive-by-photos thing but didn't have my camera, just a phone and it wasn't planned.

They have been up and down, so it might take a few days to complete.

One of the OKCTalk Street Team works right across the street and I've asked her to keep her eyes and camera peeled.

Just told me she doesn't see anything quite yet.
