Site of old Bud Wilkinson House
Today (11/30) the Board of Regents is expected to approve a measure selecting HOK of Kansas City as the design firm for a massive new Football Operations Facility to be built east of the stadium.
The board had previously approved $4 million to start the design of the large facility. The former Bud Wilkinson House has already been demolished and other structures will likely be razed/moved.
Although only in its infancy, sources have told OKCTalk the total price tag could be as high as $175 million (from donations) and will be similar to facilities at Clemson, Nebraska and Alabama. It will likely integrate the existing indoor practice field and add a huge training and nutrition component, a lounge and other amenities.
Another agenda item allocates $2.5 million to demolish the Adams Center dormitory towers as the first step toward totally rebuilding the university's housing.
Current dormitories
All three dorm towers (Adams, Walker and Couch) will be systematically demolished and then replaced with new, modern housing complexes.
All were built in the 1960s and while no specific plan has been announced, the thought would be the new housing will be similar to Headington Hall and the two residential colleges (Headington & Dunham) to the east.
Adams Center
The university recently purchase the Cross Center complex from the developer to provide capacity as Adams was left vacant when school started in August.
Together, the football facility and new housing will bring significant change to the sprawling campus.
