  • Aquarium planned for museum site

Last week, OKC played host to Brownfields 2022, the largest environmental revitalization and redevelopment conference in the U.S.

The First Americans Museum received the Phoenix Award, the grand prize.

As part of the acceptance speech, the museum's executive director mentioned they recently met with representatives from the OKC Zoo to begin planning a possible “world-class" aquarium.

The zoo had previously partnered with the developers of the Producers Co-op site (just south of the Harkins theater near Bricktown) but failed in getting a proposed aquarium on the list of final approved projects for MAPS 4, which just commenced.

The first image is of that original concept. If this goes forward near the FAM, it would be the second phase of OKANA. They have started construction on the hugely ambitious Phase I to include a hotel, a swimming lagoon, an indoor/outdoor waterpark, a large spa and scores of restaurants and shops.
