Thread: Memorial Park

    Classen Memorial Park

We've talked about this park elsewhere but it's now largely complete.

    Here's a recent photo:

Someone needs to get a hold of those houses on the South side of 36th, tear them all down and build 4 story mixed use to both corners of 36th and Classen/Western.

Apartments levels 2 and 3, condos level 4 and then space for a variety of places on the first floor. A restaurant that opens into the park would be pretty cool.

I agree with this completely. OKC has some great parks, but I would really like to see more developments make better use of them.

Had a ribbon cutting ceremony here today. Nice to see that great fountain operating again:

It's a nice little park. I dropped by here on Sunday and the fountain was going. Sat down on a bench and just enjoyed the weather and company. It was quite lovely.

That fountain is so awesome! Glad the water is back on.

It's interesting, but they put blue dye in the water.Perhaps that's more common than I realize, but just struck me as fascinating when I was there last weekend.

that's something they would do before the renovation. i always wondered if that was to keep people out of it

Fun fact: the fountain is featured prominently in the Flaming Lips' video for "Waitin' for [a] Superman", from the album "The Soft Bulletin" (probably my favorite era of the Lips). This was shot around 1999 or 2000.

Does anyone know why the beautiful fountain in Memorial Park is never on? It hasn't held water in at least a year, based off my drives down Classen. Such a shame.

Mostly a shame because it was repaired when the park was renovated which hasn't been that long ago. Suggest a shout out to @okcparks on Twitter to see if they respond.
