Very sad to see. Austin sacraficed his body numerous times for the school. He could of quit many times due to injury but always fought back. He was a true Sooner.

Looks to be drug overdose. If true, what a waste.

    Here's the police report.

How incredibly sad. Was Box dealing with any lingering injuries? In the report above, it says Cobble told the officer he believed Box had overdosed. Did Cobble have reason to believe Box had attempted to take his own life? Such a horrible tragedy.

He just graduated from OU last week!

He had another year of football eligibility but had just completed his undergrad degree.

I don't know the young man, but given his player status, a reasonable guess would be yes.

    Multiple back surgeries...
In addition to knee injuries. He spent most of his college playing career fighting off injuries.

Excuse me jackass, it was prescribed oxycodone he was taking for his multiple surgeries. I'm around the world and I knew that. Think before you post such things, because that's one of the things that makes it so tragic... look at Easy180's post.

He must have been in bad pain to overdose in that way accidentally or he was upset about something. We will never know. If it was an accident, I wonder how one would overdose accidentally.

Wooo, step back. Nothing wrong with MugOfBeer's comment. Thousands of people die from prescribed pills. But all signs at this point suggest an 'overdose' of those pills. Nobody is saying he was a crack addict. But you don't overdose from taking them correctly. Was he hooked? Did he combine them with something else? Was the pain just too bad and he took too many by accident? Who knows, but it is still tragic and it is still probably the result of drugs.

For once I'd like to see people go, "oh wait, we really don't have enough information to come to a conclusion."

All that is known for certain is he was found not breathing and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Beyond that is speculation.

That is way, way sad. As far as speculating on pain medications, it far too early for that. Let some time pass and grieve for Austin's family.

Excuse me but it is patently offensive to make drug insinuations about the deceased. I am going to let someone know when their comments do that.

Give me a break. The list of celebs known by their drug related deaths is endless. This isn't wild speculation, it has foundation. If the death is ruled otherwise, so be it. Nobody has disparaged Box, they simply reiterated drugs most likely were involved.

Why? What purpose? Sometimes people need to remember the proverb that if they don't have anything good to say, just don't say anything at all. Especially in light of a tragedy.

And then to compare it to just another celebrity to who died of a drug problem? I don't mean to go Mike Gundy on anyone, but I don't think that's an appropriate comparison here. We're talking about a great guy who was living his dream of wearing crimson and cream, which in his situation, meant one surgery after another after another. Back, knee, you name it. Of course he was on pain medications.. it's a shame that pursuing his dream of playing for OU eventually ended up like this.

Coming from the guy who just called a member of this forum a 'Jackass' - love it.
