Creatures In The Garden

Today while working in my backyard, I noticed several holes in the flowerbeds. They looked like little burrows and were about an inch and a half in diameter. I don't know how deep or how long they were. Does anyone know what is making these? Could it be a frog or a snake?

Or some little underground creature. I seem to have them, too.
