Nice pictures. It will be nice to see all of the skaters out there.

I'll just throw in my yearly plug that I think this rink should be made permanent in that plaza with ice skating in the winter and inline skating in the summer.

Rink hours are noon to 10 p.m. daily from November 24 through January 1, including holidays. Cost to skate is $8, which includes skate rental and a two-hour session. Skating is just $5 for those who supply their own skates. The CivicCenter is located at 201 N Walker. The rink is available for private parties and group ticket sales. Call 274-1638 to book your event.

Not much of a skater? The Braum's Ice Rink is also home to performances by local entertainers, ice sculptors and church and school choirs. Expert ice sculptor Ken Burkemper will enthrall audiences by chiseling whimsical holiday art from massive blocks of ice from 6 – 9 p.m. on December 7, 14, 21 and 28. On Disco Friday Night, you can shake your groove thing on ice from 6-10p.m. every Friday in December.

Participants can refuel at the Braum's Ice Rink Café with hot cocoa, coffee, soda, hot dogs, hamburgers and, of course, ice cream.

According to Fox 25 News, they state the Braum's Iceskating Rink is in Bricktown... Geez, I'll love it if and when people quit playing off the Bricktown name. Another proof the media is a joke here.

I agree Metro. Bricktown isn't the only district in downtown OKC. Hopefully, the other sectors develop nicely and we can all quit referring to everything downtown as "Bricktown".

Bricktown started the downtown renaissance, but it won't be as popular once the other districts starting taking lives of their own. This is the reason I'm so excited for OKC. In the future, Bricktown will be nice to visit every once in a while when you're not checking out the other scenes OKC has to offer. As of now, it's pretty much all we have. Thank God we have a second chance to make something right. I hope Randy Hogan has nothing to do with future developments.

    That's pathetic.

I'm waiting for one of our legislators to rename the city Bricktown.

Well, FOX is definitely a joke. They probably have some stupid new kid fresh out of the Sherman/Ada market that has no knowledge of the city writing their scripts.

It will be funny the day something on Memorial Rd. is named "Bricktown" ______.

I think it's time we all email the Fox 25 team and give them a downtown history lesson:

    aspeno@okcfox.com
    jcerreta@okcfox.com
    bskarky@okcfox.com

These were the 3 that did the story.

There is a flash map of the downtown districts.

Is it just me or would the Braums rink be more successful in Bricktown?

I mean, how much foot traffic do you have floating around the Civic Center?

  15. Default Re: Braum's Ice Skating Rink

It had quite a few people there whenever I drove by last year. With all the concerts going on at the Civic Center this time of year, and the Gardens with their lights, I'm sure there will be plenty of people come to visit it. And as time goes on, I'm sure its popularity will grow as well.

You can also go to The City of Oklahoma City and see a live webcam of the skaters

  17. Default Re: Braum's Ice Skating Rink

Oh yeah! I think you can watch them sometimes on Channel 7 if you have Cox. It's hilarious to watch people try and skate.

I've never ice-skated, so I can't make too much fun of them because I know I'd fall on my butt before I even got on the ice heh.

Ice skating is hard! You need strong ankles for it, that's for sure. I went to the rink a couple years back for my first ice skating attempt and while I don't believe I fell, I did do alot of rail holding and wobbly balancing. My little stepsister had lots of fun laughing at me!

Actually, you'd be surprised during the Downtown in December events, they are widely popular and grow alot every year. In fact, I've been there several times in which they would not rent out any more skates because there were too many people on the ice, far more than any ice skating rink I've ever seen. Not to mention growing foot traffic to events in the Civic Center and the Museum of Art and the soon to be open Legacy Summit at Arts Central. And that should BE the point, to increase foot traffic in other parts of downtown besides Bricktown, especially in the arts district. Thriving arts make the city healthier and more noticed on a national scale than just some chain restaurants in a trendy tourist trap known as Bricktown.
