Going to be a fun time. hole 6 (15 for the tourney) has suites and villas wrapping around half of the hole and is going to have an awesome atmosphere. The entrance area behind hole 7 (16) is starting to look like a temporary village. Some of the tents and hospitality areas have trees coming through the floors so it looks pretty neat. I'll try to get some pics when I'm out there next

I had a great time when the PGA (main tour) was at Oak Tree in 1988.

I had a great time at the Senior Championship at Oak Tree in 2006.
    '88 was good too.

Then there was the two senior tournaments at that other country club down the way.

got Jack Nicklaus autograph in 1988.

went in 2006 was extremely disappointed. wasn't even that fun. The ads name drop all these well known guys, then it turns out they all drop out right before the tournament.

But everyone staying there is getting the AARP discount.

went out this afternoon. it was no joke hot. a lot more people walking around than I though. the entrance area is real nice. and lots of concessions located around the course. they majority of the masses stayed on holes 9,10, 13-18. its a shame because some of the earlier holes deserve some attention as well. the bleachers feel 10 degrees warmer so that's why people avoided them

I believe I will have the solution on Thursday: it is called an air-conditioned hospitality tent with an open bar.

I made it out today. The course is in amazing shape. Weather started out beautiful, turned hot but bearable in the shade. The golf was good, crowds light away frome the holes around the public entrance. I think Thursday was definitely the right day. Also, thank goodness for corporate hospitality tents with polar-quality air conditioning. Had a great time with my dad, who is getting up there in years. Glad we went.

I'm not trying to downplay this event at all and I'm thrilled that it's here but it's just not that big nationally. It takes several clicks to even find any information about it at all at ESPN.COM.

It's great for those that want to see some of the bigger names from Golf's past, but I agree...just not a huge national draw. PGA Championship and US Open get the big names and the national attention. I believe all venues are picked for those however for the next 6-10 years. Looking back in history, Oklahoma has done well in getting these events.

Southern Hills has hosted more PGA Champs than any other course - four. It has also hosted 3 US Opens.

It's nationally televised on Saturday and Sunday on NBC.
