Startup Weekend OKC - Fri, Nov 14 - Sun, Nov 16

I just wanted to announce that we're doing Startup Weekend in OKC starting this Friday and bringing this event back after a long hiatus. There have been Startup Weekend events in Norman and in Tulsa and wanted OKC to host this event, as well.

If you're unfamiliar with Startup Weekend, it's an event where you and a team of people create a new startup in 52 hours. We have a great list of judges, speakers, coaches and mentors who will guide you during the event. You can visit the Startup Weekend OKC event page for more details and to sign up for the event.

The event starts Friday evening with a 60 second pitch. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to pitch an idea. People will then vote on the best pitches and the best 5 or 7 pitches that are selected become the official projects that will be worked on for Startup Weekend. Once pitches are selected, it's up to the people who gave the pitch to recruit people on to their team with complimentary skills in order built a prototype or MVP to present to a panel of judges for Sunday evening.

This is a great opportunity to meet other entrepreneurs and will be one of the few times where you will be in a room full of marketers, business people, developers and designers who are all interested in networking and collaborating together to create new startups.

The event starts this Friday, Nov 14 at 6:30pm. The event will be in the 2nd floor auditorium at the Paramount building in Film Row. I also want to add that you don't have to have an idea to pitch to attend. Many people attend these events with no ideas to pitch and that's ok. It's an opportunity for people to collaborate on projects or ideas that are pitched and accepted as a project for Startup Weekend. Also, many people come to these events with no ideas are often inspired during the pitch event that they end up doing an unplanned, impromptu pitch. This is a great day to get feedback on any ideas you may have been pondering or thinking about!

My brother attends these events in Tampa, FL and loves them. The one there is focused mostly on Tech/IT startups, is this the same?

Yes. It's mainly Tech focused, but doesn't necessarily have to be. There's been events where non software/tech ideas have been pitched, as well.

Oops, forgot to give an update. The event went very well and exceeded expectations. The judges and coaches enjoyed the event and are already wanting to get involved with another one. Had about 55 participants with a little over 60 including the judges and coaches. The winners of the event are actively participating in the Global startup battle that is going on right now.
