    Default Newcastle Field at Bricktown

Yep, the new name for the Bricktown Ballpark, and it's no Aprils Fools joke. This is incredibly stupid name and will be bad PR.

A terrible idea. And makes me think the non-local owners are out of touch with their customer. Though I thought that when they got rid of Rowdy.

If it were named after Newcastle the beer then that might be doable but the Newcastle Casino? Fail.

Wow - complete insanity on the part of Mandalay. They're a good and successful company and should know better. Just nuts.

I suspect that locals will continue to call it "The Brick" or "Bricktown Ballpark" just as we have done for years.

People should call ALL stadiums and arenas what they ARE--and just do a simple gratuitous curtsey to the potato chip logo as they go in to thank them for their support.

And eat their chips if they are decent.

Better than crappy used to make us happy. Now utterly crappy does that trick apparently.

Sigh...the "casinoization" of Oklahoma continues unabated. Just wait until you go see the Sooners play at Riverwind Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

In that vein, at least OSU wouldn't need a name change at all..

In this and many other cases the price they get for naming rights of stadiums/arenas are a fraction of what the people payed to build it.

However, at least in this case it is just the field name, which has hardly been referred to by most people since they just gave it the name like last year. Seemed the way they did it this would happen eventually, the announcement for "Redhawks Field" was somewhat bizarre like they were tried to do it in a way to get as little attention as possible.

Apparently it is now the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Yep 2 name changes in less than 2 days, looks like Mayor Mick threw a fit and got it changed. While its slightly better, this whole thing has turned into a PR nightmare.

As hard as Native Americans fight to keep their names off of sports teams, I have to find this a little humorous that a tribe would actually pay money to have its tribal name appear on a ballpark.

--any chance they'll sponsor a return of Little Red to OU athletics?

Wise people might suggest a big, really nice, LED billboard on the front of The Brick, and sell naming it by the week to the highest bidder.
Saves all the brick work repair when they hack down the old signage.

Question: i know this will never happen but say the MLB decided to expand. And okc gets picked, is it possible to build more decks on top of wat they have now?

It would probably require the supports to be independent from any current elements and possibly cantilevered since they would need to double the seating capacity to match the smallest stadium in the league, however given the economics of baseball the team would often be a longshot at best.

Oklahoma City is one of the places where it's uncomfortable to watch baseball in the sweltering summer. If we were to ever get a major league team, I'd think an air-conditioned moveable roof stadium would be needed for success. Similar to Phoenix and Houston.

Are there still plans to add new signage to the front of the ballpark reflecting the new name?
