I ran across this YouTube video that people of my parents generation would appreciate. Skip to 4:50 for the winner.
Enjoy!

Freaking awesome.
Remembered this contest. WKY-Radio & TV (Owned by Gaylord) sponsored a couple from Oklahoma City every year. We won 1st place IIRC twice during the national dance contest existence. OKC competing with an estimated 13-16 very large cities like Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Miami, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Denver, Dallas, Houston, Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis... We were probably the smallest market represented at the time.
WKY Radio had a team of about 5-6 DJs., Ronnie Kaye, Danny Williams, Dale Wehba... they were all distinguished personalities--played a variety of music.
Ronnie Kaye's sister was on a team of winners representing OKC, don't recall if that was her in this video.
Some national disappointed viewers didn't like Oklahoma City's competitive couple's high finish in the contest on a regular basis.
Soul Train (syndicated from Chicago) was launched as an R & B counter to ABC's band dance in the 70s.
The Scene (local WKY-TV channel 4 NBC OKC, now KFOR) was our local version of ABC American Band Dance; it produced lots of competition representing our city among all of the really large markets. Some real proud moments from the late 60s & early 70s.
Thanks for the memories Brett.
^ that is really cool.
