Abe's Coffee Shop @Sailor and the Dock

New concept from Not Your Average Joe opened today with a soft opening. They are located in the front of Sailor and the Dock in the 600 block of West Sheridan. Same principle as Not Your Average Joe where their mission is to "inspire our community by including students and adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities in the creation of exceptional coffee in an encouraging atmosphere."

They were working getting staff trained and getting new items lined out but what a great encouraging start. We ordered several coffee drinks. The quality of the coffee is truly exceptional. We sampled the aebleskivers which are swedish stuffed pancake balls. They will have sweet ones like the berry stuffed ones we had but will also have savory ones like chicken and brie. The ice cream is homemade and had a dairy free option. They have fruit infused bottled/canned water. They will have other food options also. Very different cool place. With my office across the street, I can see us there often.

Grand opening is next week so run by and check them out. They are open this week 7a-2p but will expand hours next week I believe.

Sailor and the Dock has been bleeding tenants. The coffee shop, olive oil shop, several boutiques--all closed. It is pretty dead and sad in there lately.

They have had some turn. It is busy in the evenings when I leave the office but more at the bar. I liked the old coffee shop but was hidden in the back. Abes is up front with the garage door so they can open it up They do need better signage though and some street boards. Abes has gotten out and introduced themselves to the neighbors which is a good start.
