Thread: Trailer brake lights

  1. #1

    Default Trailer brake lights

I know OK law says no need for brake lights on trailers as long as the trailer doesn't block the brake lights of the towing vehicle. I have one of those cheap 5x8 utility trailers from Tractor Supply and the ramp is expanded metal so you can see thru it. I want to tow it with a Mazda CX-5 crossover. Do you think I'll be legal in this case? Thanks.

I've been through this with a similar utility trailer. We went to church with a couple of OKC patrol officers. I asked. They both agreed they would not stop any trailer as long as the tow vehicle lights are visible. And they're visible through the expanded metal. Much like some off roaders put guards over their lights.

Based on the number of trailers *and* cars/trucks without working brake lights, doesn't seem like any enforcement at all is going on...

Thanks Bill, sounds like I should be fine.
