These are the Project 180 plans for reworking all the landscaping and hardscape around City Hall. They plan to start this work very soon.

Gray trees to be removed; green trees to stay:

There are statues on city hall grounds that I don't see represented in the drawing, even though the new sculpure that's on the east lawn is there...

I like the improvements to the area around City Hall but the layout of the paths in front of the Civic Center are still only designed to get people from their parking space to the front door of the Civic Center, and back to their car. Even as people move into this area they are still not going to be able to conveniently traverse the park as part of their daily walking. Alas, at this point there is probably nothing they can do without starting over, and that isn't going to happen. It is a lesson learned for Central Park though - for those wishing to learn it.

Looks like they're planning to remove the Centennial clock.

I love the changes and think this will look outstanding! Can't wait for it to start.

The improvements will coincide nicely with the completion of the new Main Street Garage, which should be complete in late summer.

I really wish they kept some of the muture trees near the civic center, I like that the landscaping is the same with both of them but I was hoping they would keep some of the big trees. Now of course its going to look beautiful in several years, so I guess I just have to remind myself that.

You probably know this, but I didn't until I had a tour guide tell me, but the entire park area of civic center and city hall (including walking paths) is supposed to replicate the look of one of the art deco light fixtures on the grounds of the civic center (from the air). I'm just saying I don't think they designed it for cars/parking so much as to obtain that look in this case. That doesn't mean this was the right approach to the parks in this area, or worth the loss of the old trees, etc, but now that I know the design intent I'm better about the whole thing.

I didn't know about the light post specifically but it definitely has an art-deco look - when viewed from 10,000 in the air, and that is the problem. It shouldn't have been designed to be appreciated from space, it should have been designed to be walked in. Anyhow, that is money and opportunity under the bridge at this point.

BTW - the design reminded me of a wheat stalk.
