Thread: Flip's

  1. #1

    Western Ave. Flip's

Drove by today and the sign facing Western simply read "Arriverderci," which is Italian for "Goodbye."

Why else would an Italian restaurant put "Goodbye" on their sign?

I heard on KOCO that they are closing.

Wouldn't bother me really. Overpriced average food IMO.

    Cause it's right by Chesapeake...

    I'm sorry...was that tasteless?

Never thought their food was 'great' but I really liked the atmosphere most of the time.... gets a little 'douchey' on weekend nights. We usually got the Italian Nachos, some wine and just talked it up with friends.

I sent them a message on Facebook. Have yet to hear anything back.

Just called them. Bartender said he hasn't heard anything, but other people have called. He said sometimes they just put random stuff on the marquee. Weird.

From David Cathey: Nope. Just a sign leftover for a goodbye party for an employee moving on to bigger and better things.

    Thanks Steve (and Dave).

Maybe not a good idea for a restaurant that has less-than-stellar reviews, has had significant competition open across the street in the past year, and regularly uses their sign for "help wanted" advertising.

Sorry to ring the alarm everybody.

Shows the power of this site -- for good or bad.

Was in there for lunch today and asked about this, having not seen the more recent posts.

The manager said: "The newspaper called, Fox News called... We explained to all of them is was just a goodbye to an employee."

I mentioned it was a good sign that so many people cared and she agreed and asked me to spread the word to others.

Again - feeling like a nitwit. Maybe it will turn into positive publicity and people will go by this weekend.

I have never not enjoyed a visit to Flips.
It has been good every time.
I was saddened to see the original "headline/question" and gladdened to see that "perception was NOT reality" . . .

I used to live over there and loved to go but wasn't as enthused the last time I went, a couple of years ago. What restaurant is across the street?

501 Cafe (to the West) and Upper Crust Pizza (to the NW).

Flip's recently added to their menu and on my last two visits was even better than I remember. I asked my waiter and he said they have a new chef. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food and always has a lively atmosphere.

I simply can't understand how anyone could "diss" Flips in terms of ambiance and food quality.
Maybe I've just been lucky on the too few occasions that I've visited.

I've always loved Flip's and the place has a warmth and ambiance that simply can't be replicated with new construction.

IMO, it's one of the few restaurants in OKC with real character and charm.
