Just a note. That the bottom floor windows have been blacked out for several weeks now

Okay, I've figured this out... They will be taking the corner space which includes that great staircase -- see shaded area below.

However, the mezzanine stretches across to the space just to the north as well, so I don't know how they'll handle that.

This should be a really amazing setting:

I know who the operators will be, but can't say just yet.

Will be a group behind this with ample experience.

Can you say what type of food?

Edit: Nevermind, missed the Chophouse part.

Wow. What a great space. This has the potential to be another show piece restaurant downtown. It would be very odd if they didn't integrate the staircase. Seems to me that would be the whole reason for wanting the space.

    I dig the name!

I've heard about this as well and I am very excited. This will be an excellent addition to the Midtown area with very high quality food. Will likely compete with RedPrime for business and clientele.

Any idea as to time frame for opening?

It's a new group that has been formed featuring a few people with experience from a good local operator, plus some investors.

I'm going to sound like an idiot here, but I'm going to ask anyway-- what constitutes as a "chop house"? Is it the same concept as a steak house? Barbeque joint? High-end Arby's?

Yes, usually features fine steaks plus pork, lamb and veal chops.

Here is a menu from the Arroyo Chop House in Pasadena, which is fantastic:

I like the guessing game, so here is mine... Totally random, and I know nothing, but I'm going to guess the guys behind The Mule have something to do with it. Total guess.

    I'm guessing the Stella people.

No, it's former higher-ups from the Hal Smith organization.

Hopefully this is a long term investment for them. Correct if I am wrong, but I thought Hal was notorious for opening restaurants and flipping within the first 2 years to somebody else. Using the honeymoon period to pad the numbers and make a quick profit.

Padding the numbers and then flipping? Which restaraunts are you accusing him of doing that with? Padding numbers implies something illegal or unethical. Is that what you are saying?

Again, this isn't Hal Smith Group running it, it's former chef/front of house that used to work for him. I also know the money guy behind it. Hal's policies and influence should have very little to do with how they choose to run this. I predict it will be a success, although to beat Red Prime food-wise will be tough. This location is better and more visible though.

A peak inside their space from catch 22.

Looks like they have yet to start in earnest, which isn't a great surprise as I haven't seen a building permit as of yet. I think that is coming soon... I've heard they are trying to get all the detailed plans from the ground floor tenants at both 1100 and 1101 so they can be coordinated all at once.

I'd take Mahogany all day long over the Red Prime, I hope they keep to those same high standards .
