County/MSA Population Estimates 2006

Surprised this thread wasn't started already.. I'll save someone the trouble!

This is the first year that the OKC Metro has had 3 counties over 100,000 (welcome Canadian to that club), and Oklahoma County is within 10,000 of hitting 700k. Tulsa's metro is nearing 1 million and Tulsa County was the highest numeric gainer between 05 and 06.

Umm...those increases really aren't that large.

Not that large, yes, but they are still increases. Lots of cities LOST people so at least we're not on that end of things. Still would like to see Texas-like increases but maybe that's unrealistic, and a lot of that would just be sprawl like it is in Texas.

These estimates are 2005-2006.

Actually they are for July 1, 2006. The Census Bureau calculates estimates each July 1 (except of course for actual census years) and it takes them about 8 months to get all the data assembled and published.

not bad for ONE YEAR increases,

and based on the Jul assessment - OK county should be over 700K by the end of this year if growth remains the same.

I wonder if OKC city has reached 550K by estimates yet?

Umm...those increases really aren't that large.

Don't know about that. OKC's metro population increased more than 17,000 for the year. At that rate, it would increase more than 170,000 for the decade, far more than anything in the past---in fact, a very impressive increase.
Similarly, Tulsa's metro population went up over 12,000 during the year, and this would project to a decade increase of more than 120,000, again far greater than anything in the past.

Also, Im thinking that OKC might actually see larger increases in population now that our economy is doing well and OKC is being seen in more positive light every day!!!

There's lots of chatter on the forums about folks relocating to OKC from other states like AZ, CA, and dare I say - TX. Of course, to them its no loss because they have heavy immigration from MX and other states.

Ill take it. OKC CSA 1.4M+, city 600K by 2010?? Hope so!

Also, I hope the state picks up. 4M by 2010?? Hope so, get our congressman back!!!

Oh, I also thought that was from 2000-2006. If those are one year increases, those aren't bad.

Those are great for a one year increase. I actually thought Logan would be a little higher than that. We are having a huge influx of houses (actually being sold hehe) being built in the southern half of our county. I bet when Hwy 74 (Portland Ave) goes to 4 lane all the way up to Hwy 33 then there will be a huge boom.
