Was it? I thought it closed for good, because the neighbors didn't appreciate the noise and traffic coming from Bells. I sure do miss Bells though.

There waa shadying thing going on with the fairground owner and some vendor that does the rides and games at the fairgrounds, they mainly booted bells out, the owner of bells said that he was looking to rebuild, but that was a while ago

I heard a rumor about 2 or 3 years ago the Six Flags was going to put a park in Tulsa, of course that's just a rumor, and at the time Six Flags owned Frontier City, the chances of that happening were not good, Now that they filed for bankruptcy, I doubt that it will happen, and then the last thing that I heard that Bells was going to built a new park in Jenks, but it did not happen.

IF they ever rebuild Bell's, Frontier City in OKC will still be much larger, so I guess your wish for a "big theme park in Oklahoma" is likely to go unfulfilled.

As to whether Tulsa will ever have a theme park again, actually, Tulsa has never had a "theme park" per se, just a very small amusement park. But my best guess is that Tulsa will have an amusement or theme park again at about the same time they have a major league professional sports team, which is to say, not in my lifetime (or yours).

that area in Stroud would be a great place for a theme park, you know, the area where the outlet mall used to be, but then again, it IS in tornado alley.
With the exception of Denver (whose park is right in downtown) most parks are outside of the city anyway.

Back in about 1977 The Sunday Oklahoman did a large spread about a theme park called Seven Continents Over Oklahoma that was supposed to be built in Stroud and open in 1982. Does anyone remember this?

Well fortunately, or unfortunately (however you want to see it), Bells closing only helps out Frontier City. That's more traffic that has to come to OKC because there is no longer an option elsewhere. Bells wasn't much more than a carnival anyway....and was VERY unsafe. They didn't inspect as often as they should have and really endangered their customers.

Any who....Frontier City hasn't developed a HUGE amount of land they own west of Coltrane. Check out the assesor's website and you can see how much they own. It's more than double what the current park is (including parking). So there is ample room to grow. Even is parking is moved West and the current lot is developed.

But if Bells opens back up, we're ensuring that Oklahoma will be without a quality park because they can't compete with each other. Tulsa can gather support from NW AR and SW MO, but that's less than if Frontier City pulled in from the state.

I know that when they dismantled the Zingo, they took it apart and numbered each piece, planning to rebuild somewhere, someday.
