Oklahoma City Thunder unveils plans for state of the art scoreboard

Plans for a new $3.9 million scoreboard that will hang inside the Ford Center in time for the 2009-10 NBA season were announced Monday by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The scoreboard will feature 10 full-motion video panels, six more than the arena’s current scoreboard, an LED ring at the top to display video and text and two tilted video panels at the bottom, angled toward the court so that fans seated courtside and in the lower seats can have a better viewing experience.

Video screens on the new scoreboard will be three times the size of the current scoreboard and significantly enhance video and graphics presentations.

“Our goal is to take as many steps as possible to improve the game experience for our fans,” said Brian Byrnes, the Thunder’s senior vice president for ticket sales and services. “The high quality video panels will provide higher resolution which means sharper, clearer images and enhanced viewing for every seat in the house.”

The South Dakota-based company Daktronics will manufacture the scoreboard, which will be 35 feet wide, 31 feet tall and weigh 46,000 pounds.

Funding for the scoreboard was among $120 million generated from a 1-cent sales tax approved by voters on March 4, 2008 toward an initiative to expand and renovate the Ford Center.

It'll look a lot more awesome if it shows a lot more than 23 Thunder wins next season.

Is there anywhere I can see the current scoreboard at the Ford Center?

Cox centers scoreboard > Old Ford Centers

The video panels are just too small on it

They should donate the old one to a local high school with a big enought gym to support it

I think it still might collapse the roof. Granted, it's not as big as this one, but it's still pretty darn huge!
