Why did the Taco Bell on Douglas and 29th get torn down? It seemed like it was a newer building as it didn't have the classic Taco Bell architecture. Anyone have any insight on this?

Word is that they are going to be building a new Taco Bell on site.
Are you talking about the one right next to Oncue?
I have a feeling it's like McDonalds....they want some corporate tax break from rebuilding. I could have sworn the McDonald's on 15th was torn down yet again to rebuild....again.
That building has been there since about the mid 80's. I think it was remodeled to the new look but I don't remember it ever being completely torn down and rebuilt...... at least not until now apparently.
Now they can fix the crappy layout of the store, parking lot/drive-thru.
The 15th and 23rd st stores went through a remodel to look like new ones. I think initially McDonald's was giving franchisees the option to keep the old look. Now I think they are requiring an upgrade or at least giving incentives to renovate/rebuild based on the fact that they are considering serving breakfast all the time or at least having a limited breakfast menu starting at midnight. The store on 29th and Douglas and 122nd and Penn are the last classic looking McDonald's in the city that do not have a gas station or vacant Blockbuster attached.
I'm still amazed at how quick they can tear down and rebuild a McDonalds.
