New paintball park on I-40

OKLAHOMA CITY - A new paintball business has assuaged the concerns of City Council members who sought protection for passing traffic.

Epic Paintball Park LLC recently approached the council with a plan to develop 130 acres at 9420 W. I-40 Service Rd. as a paintball park. Zoning changes were required because the area south of Interstate 40 and east of Morgan Road was originally planned for a combination of agricultural, residential and industrial uses.

About 20 acres for the park are under the oversight of the Oklahoma City River Redevelopment Authority; the remainder is privately owned. Epic spokesman Kelly Work said company executives have been working for nearly two years to find appropriate space.

Council members agreed with the Planning Commission's recommendation and voted 9-0 to approve the rezoning and a five-year lease. An emergency exemption was passed as well so that work can begin quickly to take advantage of an expected spike in fall attendance. No prospective opening date was discussed, however.
