We saw it as we drove through Tennessee a few weeks ago but it hadn't opened just yet. There's one in Crossville that is pretty new also we've stopped at a couple times.

I'm convinced Oklahoma will never get one. If having 2 of the busiest interstates crossing through the state hasn't convinced them to open here, they never will. Which sucks. It shows a lack of faith in Oklahoma to support their business.

Don't think it shows lack of faith, just that OK isn't in their plans yet. OK may be good, but other sites may be preferential to them for any number of good business reasons.

Well, yes and no. While I am no expert on the matter, I would think they're using traffic count data and for example TNDOT reports the traffic count through that section of I40 is over 45K vehicles per day, and the typical count across I40 across Tennessee is about that. Traffic counts on I40 across Oklahoma generally are a fraction of that according to ODOT traffic counts, with the exception of within the OKC metropolitan area which could mean a majority of that traffic count is some sort of local traffic rather than thru. I've driven I40 from coast to coast in various trips including to the outer banks just this month, and from the eye-test I-40 traffic is pretty nil when you get on the east side of Shawnee and doesn't pick up hardly at all through Arkansas but does as you start getting close to Memphis. Then from there east traffic gets worse and then you're pretty much white-knuckling the steering wheel because there's such an increase in traffic. Same goes for 40 out west of the metro, once you get to the El Reno area the traffic really thins out almost all the way to Barstow, of course with the exception of cities. But even then Albuquerque doesn't have much 40 traffic. 35 is about the same -- over the last 25 years traffic has really picked up between OKC and Texas, and then it seems south of Gainesville it's nearly bumper to bumper all the way into Denton. But going north into Kansas, 35 is a breeze with not nearly as much traffic as I40 gets out east.

But all that being said, I think I agree with you that we probably won't get one here if they're using these traffic counts. I'm not sure if their business model is trying to get locals in or thru traffic, but I do know they are not 18-wheeler friendly. I can't say I would visit the place over and over again as a local if one was here. I probably would a few times but then the fun would probably wane.

There was a rumor before COVID that they were going to build one near RiverWind Casino in Norman/Goldsby.

Still think this is what's going to happen once that interchange gets updated. That field directly to the east of RiverWind looks like the perfect size for one.

Fairy tales can come true. That has been an unsubstaniated rumor for quite sometime. Who owns that land at present?

Also that was before Stitt put the screws to ODOT not to build the interchange near Riverwind.

There's plenty of rumors surrounding Bucc-ee's. Supposedly one has been investigated for near Tulsa, but it would involve a major land deal and an infrastructure agreement proposal that is being set up quietly behind the scenes at the moment. I have a feeling they are VERY picky and have a lot of conditions that have to be met for a project to happen. Oklahoma is an obvious target for expansion, it just takes the right location and infrastructure.

Yep. The proposed interchange is a joke anyways. It should be a directional Y stack.

For arguments regarding traffic counts along I-35/I-44/I-40

Buc-ee's has announced two stores close to Oklahoma. One is being built on I-44 in Springfield Missouri, and another is being built in Amarillo along I-40. Both of these communities are smaller in size than OKC or Tulsa, and have the same or less traffic along the interstate. While Buc-ees caters to travelers, they aren't a truck stop, so semi-traffic is not relevant to their business model. Families and leisure travelers I assume are their first tier customers.

I am not sure how much local traffic they get on a daily basis just given the size and amount of time it takes to get in and out of their stores and parking lots due to the sheer size. It's not a quick stop, it's definitely a destination.

Trucks are not relevant to their business model as you stated:

Riverwind purchased it in 2016. So it's not going to be a Buc-ees. If a gas station is ever built there, it would likely be under the Chickasaw Travel Stop brand. But I believe it's intended to be used for Riverwind expansion, possibly a parking garage or a new theater to replace the current one, both of which are things I've heard bandied around that Riverwind wants. (But then again they've been wanting those since 2009 so I have no idea if they're ever going to happen.)

I'm not sure where the rumor that Goldsby was getting a Buc-ees came from, but it needs to die because every time I've dug into it I have found absolutely nothing to substantiate it (as someone who grew up in Goldsby I would be pleased if it happened, but there's just nothing there indicating it's more than a wild fantasy).

Tennessee will hold the world's largest Buc'ees this year until the new Luling one opens up next year, then the title will return back to Texas. With that said I'm sure Buc'ees have it's sight set for Oklahoma in the not too distance future.

So, we're getting a Buc-ee's very near where I live here in Georgia. I'm pretty excited about it.

    https://thebrunswicknews.com/news/lo...e00a075f8.html

The worst kept secret in the Golden Isles was finally made public at Tuesday’s Golden Isles Development Authority meeting.

A Buc-ee’s travel center is coming to the Interstate 95 interchange at Exit 42.

The authority’s board unanimously approved to invest $3 million for road work at the interchange, including traffic signals and improvements to the right of way along Ga. 99 to support Buc-ee’s and future businesses along the corridor.

Stan Beard, director of real estate for Buc-ee’s, confirmed the company’s plans to build the travel center here.

“This is an exciting intersection for us,” he said. “This is a good pick for us. The city’s been good; the county’s been good.”

Beard emphasized a Buc-ee’s is “not your local convenience store.” The travel centers have more than 100 pumps, no semi-tractor trailers, clean bathrooms with attendants on the job 24-7, food kiosks and lots of family friendly merchandise.

The travel center will cost an estimated $30 million to build and employ 175 people. Annual sales are expected to be $30 million, excluding gas sales.

“We are stopping cars in Glynn County that would not normally stop,” he said.

A “hard schedule” for work to begin will be announced in 30 to 45 days. A ground-breaking ceremony is already planned, Beard said.

A 10-year tax abatement agreement will enable the county to recoup the $3 million in improvements planned at the interchange, said Ryan Moore, president and CEO of the authority.

Glynn County Commissioner Bill Brunson predicted the travel center will have a “tremendous impact to our community.”

Glynn County Commissioner Wayne Neal said he was excited about the growth the travel center will bring to the area.

“If foretells a bright future for Glynn County,” he said.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to this, it's going to be just under 75,000 square feet.

Intersection is empty currently, but is near a historical plantation site.

I'm sure they'll expand the Texas one that already U/C even bigger, since our motto is that "everything is bigger in Texas". I feel like this is a competition to see just how big Buc'ees can get. Lol

I think if they built a Buc-ee's in Oklahoma. It would be near the WinStar Casino and Resort.
