Thread: Historic Neighborhoods: Classen Drive

  1. Default Historic Neighborhoods: Classen Drive

I did a drive-about yesterday morning on the western-most part of Heritage Hills and made a blog post here: Doug Dawgz Blog: Historic Neighborhoods: Classen Drive but this post shows all the images.

The area toured is shown below. Generally, I began the tour at NW 13th, drove north on Classen Drive (which is a one-way (irregular) oval road around the very lovely Alice Harn Park - shown after the Mid-Continent gateway into the area), a short side-jaunt at the north end of Classen Drive on NW 15th, and then back to Classen Drive to drive south on the west side of Classen Drive, ending at a westward look on NW 14th.

Here is the area shown in the tour:

    Generally

    Specifically

The southern gateway: Mid-Continent (new home of Oklahoma Heritage Association)

Approaching and showing Alice Harn Park (Alice, wife of William, owned the area)

Continuing north on the east side of Classen Drive

Looking west across Alice Harn Park

At the north end of the east side of Classen Drive

Looking easterly at NW 15th Street

An easterly jaunt on NW 15th

A remnant of the Baum Building at the end of the NW 15th block

Back west on NW 15th to Classen Drive, looking north

North end of Classen Drive looking south on the park

Continuing south on the west side of Classen Drive

At the end of the tour on the west side of Classen Drive, looking west on NW 14th

It was a beautiful fall October morning in a great Oklahoma City historic neighborhood!

    Thanks Doug!

    I love that area.

If I was buying in the area, I'd much rather live in the northern part of HH or Mesta Park than one of the new downtown condos. You can get a nice home in that area for under $300K.

Really beautiful pics! The houses are big and beautiful, but the trees are what really make this area for me!

I love that circle. I looked at a house there a couple of years ago, but didn't pull the trigger.

Those are beautiful pictures. You captured the essence of what I love about that area. If you go to Tulsa, go to Maple Ridge around 21st and Riverside, and you can get the same feeling.

Thank you Doug for the lovely photos.

I would have to comment that as a whole Oklahoma City has maintained its historic neighborhoods very well. If only we could apply this same attitude towards historic commercial structures, we might actually get somewhere as a city. At least we're making progress with the Skirvin Hotel and other historic structures in the Flat Iron District.
