Weather General Weather Discussion - August 2019

Temperature relief looks likely coming for the weekend, knocking highs from near 100 back toward low 90s - maybe even an 88 or 89 on Sunday.

The precipitation forecast that once looked decent is looking worse each day. We may get some showers or storms Friday into Saturday, but the best chance will be across the NE half of OK with some storm complexes moving out of KS into the Tulsa region and points southward.

The death ridge will not be shifting as far SW as it looked previously, and in fact - it looks like it will build strength across TX and OK heading into the back half of next week. So highs in C OK will return to near 100 by Thursday and I think we could see some of the hottest days of the year with highs nearing the 105-110F range by next weekend.

Next potential rain and temperature relief looks to be around August 15ish.

This is some really good news. I love these hot temps and no rain. It’s perfect for the lake and pool.

Short-range models shifting storm chances further west for overnight Friday and for the day Saturday. Indications of perhaps some heavy rain in localized areas where storms train over the same paths. MOvement will be NW to S SE.

FLOOD WATCH out. Doesn't include OKC. Included is northeast and east central Oklahoma:

Effective: Fri, 8/2 2:00pm Updated: Fri, 8/2 4:00pm Urgency: Future
Expires: Sun, 8/4 2:50am Severity: Moderate Certainty: Possible

    Details:

    ...Flooding Possible Tonight into Saturday...
...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE THIS EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY
    AFTERNOON...
The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a
    * Flood Watch for flash flooding...flooding of creeks and
rivers...and flooding of low lying areas for portions of central
Oklahoma, east central Oklahoma, northern Oklahoma, and
    southeast Oklahoma
    * From late this evening through Saturday afternoon.
    * Heavy rainfall associated with widespread showers and
thunderstorms late this evening into Saturday.
    * Avoid areas that normally flood during heavy rain and do not
drive into areas where water covers the road. Flooding is very
hard to see at night, so use extreme caution if you are
    traveling at night.
    Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
    current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Short-range models both develop rain and storms near C OK.

NAM puts storms hitting OKC, possible severe with wind and hail. HRRR puts storms just off to the E of OKC, maybe a rogue cell or two developing along outflow boundaries affecting the metro.

As of noon, rainfall amounts are concentrating in a very heavy way in a fairly narrow band between Oklahoma City and Tulsa or really more like stretching between the Kansas and Texas borders. The east side of Stillwater has gone over 2 inches. OKC may get some rain if things directly to the north hold together.

What the rain did in Oklahoma today, Saturday, is called training, and here is how it looked as it rolled out on radar:

Another bait and switch for the local weather news. Every day the extended forecast changes. So why do it?

Absolutely dry as a powder house in Del City. Not a drop.

Highs still around 100F for most of C OK. The exceptions will be days and areas that have some type of cloud cover based on rain and storms.

Very weak chances of rain and storms in C OK for the next couple days as there will be an outside shot at some NW flow action coming out of KS. However, this will primarily be across NE OK. Overnight Thursday looks to be the best chance for OKC to get any amount of rain (pictured below).

Otherwise still 100+ heading through the weekend. Long-range outlook: maybe some temperature and precipitation relief coming Monday night.

Not sure who OKC pissed off to get missed by all this rain that Tulsa and east OK is getting. Maybe OKC is too liberal for voting for Kendra Horn

Rain and storms just off to the W of C OK, these are trying their hardest to develop east and eat into the ridge of death, but are likely to fail. Models expect to see them weaken and fizzle out over the morning hours. We will at least get the cloud cover to help cap high temperatures.

Another chance at more rain and storms tonight, but like mentioned earlier - the chances are very low here in C OK.

Today was a really nice day, and tomorrow may not be so bad either, but man, the extended range looks absolutely brutal besides a brief reprieve around the middle of next week.

Showers and storms from overnight are traveling a little further to the south and west than forecast. This should give OKC a better shot at some. Especially north and east sides of the metro.

Definitely will cap temperatures down before a brutally hot weekend.

So much for the sprinkles the local weather guys were talking about, LOL! This whole bait and switch by local meterologists is just a ploy to get viewer numbers...

purely sarcasm directed at the few that always bitch about the local weather people
