Has anyone been to the new Lumpy's at 122nd and May? Review wanted. Thanks.

A tip from a band member with a postponed gig at the new location indicated something along the lines of problems with fees and licenses and stuff like that there.

Hence the delay in any meaningful reviews of the joint.

    Stay tuned.

    I mean . . .
With a name like "Lumpy's" it has to be good.
    Right?

I have a friend who lives over near MacArthur & NW Expressway so we stopped by the Lumpy's at that intersection last night.

Opened the door, smelled a heavy cloud of smoke and turn around and left.

Ended up going to the nearby Buffalo Wild Wings which I didn't realize has a pretty huge smoking area, completely sectioned off. Of course, didn't sit in there.

You're not going to find any respite in that neck of the woods. The best you could hope for in the non-smoking sector is Joe's crabshack if you're in the mood for a blue margarita with a plastic shark sidecar filled with grenadine to simulate blood in the water closest I can think of is the sectioned off and separately ventilated areas at the 51st st speakeasy on 51st&western. There's a Louie's over there somewhere too, there's a Louie's everywhere. But it's not really a bar either.

I went to that Lumpy's once to shoot pool. It's the smokiest bar I think I've ever been in. And I shoot pool a lot of different places. The Porthole is a close second.

Got to go with cock of the walk as the smokiest bar

I'm guessing you've never been to the HiLo on a Friday night. I have to hang my clothes outside for a week. It literally will not wash out.

Cousins is up there. Sipango is/was.

We play on the same league with two Cousins teams. They're one of the least smoky bars we play in. At least on weeknights. Weekends might be different.

As a frequenter of dives that still allow smoking I've got to say the Hi-lo is the clear winner. It is waaaay smokier than Richards, the Store Club, old Bali Hai. Cousins and Cock of the Walk aren't even in the same league.

    ^^^^^
Hi-Lo's low ceilings make it worse

Met the owner of Sipango over the weekend and he said their business took an instant and healthy jump when they went non-smoking a couple of weeks ago.

He also said they did a very thorough cleaning and that the smokey smell is pretty much gone.

I will try and stop by soon and give it a test sniff.
