Temperatures will moderate the next few days until Wednesday night when we get another arctic air shot.

Nothing looking promising moisture-wise. Drought will continue to build, especially across NW half of OK where the last system brought basically no moisture.

GFS hinting at 1/9 for a storm to move through mostly affecting eastern OK. Western OK could get some around 1/13. For now these should be rain events.

Rain chances are dwindling quickly for the next week or two. Not looking good for wildfire season between now and the greenup...hopefully we avoid something as bad as the Rhea Fire back in 2018.

Typical La Niña winter for the southern Plains. Oklahoma/Texas has been right on the edge of significantly higher rainfall to the east. Tennessee has been hammered with multiple snowstorms. Last time we had a strong La Niña was 2018-19.

Yes this is continuing to get worse. Maybe some moisture chances sneaking in toward EOM.

Drove through Nashville around 8 a.m. on New Year's and it was already 75 degrees there...still can't believe they went from that to two major snowstorms in less than a week. Was a fun experience going from 80 degrees and thunderstorms in Tennessee to 15 degrees and snow showers in Oklahoma over the course of about 9 hours on I-40.

I’ve done that a couple times driving between Colorado and Oklahoma in the spring

The milder daytime temps this week look like they will give way to a terrible weekend. Saturday looks like highs will struggle to make freezing and winds will howl out of the N/NW at 20+mph. Potential for some blowing snow [mostly across NE OK] as well.

Such a bizarre pattern where we have so many beautiful days and then have some bitterly cold periods mixed in.

And almost no precipitation for months.

Here is an early look from NAM at the blowing snow potential this weekend.

Miserable Saturday still on tap. Precipitation chances are still contained to mostly E and NE OK.

Current track forecast is shifting further east as we approach event. All of OK will still experience high winds and arctic air. OKC will probably see some light blowing snow on Saturday, nothing impactful.

This new weather is great. Way less tornadoes. Mild AF summers and slightly colder winters.

Now if we could just get that wind to go away . . .

Interesting to see the impact of the higher terrain of SE Oklahoma and W Arkansas for this snow event.

    No.

I'm getting so old...lol. I used to love a good snow storm. Now whenever it snows I look out the window with a Clint Eastwood grimace on my face.

This weather tomorrow might give me a chance to work more on the downed tree in my backyard from the 2020 ice storm (tree big AF)!

The weather is nice so far which is surprising and no snow that sticks to the ground and no ice is nice

Really need some moisture, every storm seems to be missing the region. Hoping for a pattern change in February

As long as it's above freezing I'm absolutely for it.

January is usually one of the driest months but that is coming after a dry fall. Hoping for relief this spring. This is the current drought map

Waiting for hi-def NAM runs to get into event window. But here is a snapshot from the GEM & GFS showing some low accumulations of snow across the area.

February looks likely warm and equal chances for normal precipitation:

Don't mind the above temps but we need the moisture! This is one very mild winter. Wow.
