    Default Outsiders View of OKC

This is a fairly recently video from someone making a stop in OKC showing his impressions. He obviously didn't visit all areas but it is interesting anyway and has mostly positive comments from viewers.

That is just a bad video. Everyone with a phone video app shouldn't try to be an influencer. Just bad, bad, bad.

I don’t know, Rover. As far as “trying” to be an influencer, Mileage Mike has about 120,000 subscribers across two channels. That’s cashing a decent check from Google each month and he’s actually pretty interesting. He’s a Civil Engineer and has lots of fascinating takes on the infrastructure of metro areas across the country.

He commented that Oklahoma City is "flat and boring." Mileage Mike is flat and boring. He came to OKC and stayed 4 days at a Wyngate out by the airport? What a dork.

Man, that wreck at the 0:12 mark involved some major league screwing up.

He actually said that other people say that about OKC. While he did say it's flat, he didn't say it's boring. Good lord. We even have out-of-context aggregators on OKCTalk. I thought his review was straightforward and fair.

He didn't visit much of OKC, actually. It probably would have been a more interesting video if he replaced the 20 min spent on the suburbs with time in the Plaza, Paseo, Uptown, Capitol Hill, Film Row / West Village, etc.

Point made that my comment was taken out-of-context, but who comes to a sprawling city with an active, vibrant downtown (and other districts) and stays at a Wyngate out by the airport? I found his report boring and give it little credibility.

I don’t think it’s as deep as what some are making it out to be. His name is “Mileage Mike” which suggests he travels a lot and his content is clearly done from the perspective of someone that is traveling by car with an interest in interstate and road networks. To me, I think of his style as someone who isn’t exploring the city and the various districts to check out how hip the food scene is or how poppin’ the nightlife is, nor how much they can let their creative artistry shine in post-production, but more as someone who is getting a superficial and quick experience with the city from their car while having a very general understanding of the city. Overall, there was practically nothing offensive and certainly nothing to get defensive about or insult him over.

You give him little credibility when most of what he said can be found on the internet while doing no more than an hours worth of research? Disliking the “straight to the facts” approach with a little interjection here and there is fine, clearly his target audience are people that want a quick rundown of the city and us locals aren’t going to be terribly interested in that since we see all that on a daily basis, but acting like he sullied and tarnished the good name of our city because he didn’t do an extensive review of just the downtown area and stayed at a hotel near the airport is so melodramatic.

This reminds me of an outsiders view of OKC in the late 60s early 70s that I had the opportunity to be a part of. My dad was a printing pressman for Roberts Printing for years. It was on Hudson somewhere between 4th and 8th. I don't remember exactly. It was the bottom floor of a two story building. The top floor was empty but had a bathroom and kitchenette like it was intended to be a living space. A guy from Boston went to work for Roberts. He cleaned up the upstairs and lived there. Dad told him about restaurants and places we went. The guy actually asked how we felt safe going out after work hours because of the possibility of Indian raids. Seriously. Indian raids.
No matter how bad views of OKC might be now they were worse back then.

And it's not melodramatic to say that I am "acting like he sullied and tarnished the good name of our city?" When all I did was comment on his boring video and his choice of accommodations? LMAO

His delivery is flat and boring and I'm amazed the guy has 120,000+ followers.

Practically nothing offensive…..just practically nothing, period. If he has 100,000 followers then there are a LOT of bored easily amused people out there. There was nothing insightful, meaningful, informative, clever, or even entertaining. If that is his typical video, then just wow.

Wow. Why all the judgment? This guy has over 2000 videos from 40+ states on his ‘Mileage Mike Travels’ channel and his focus is primarily highways and their importance in American culture. He takes some trips into neighborhoods, but it’s all very much in a “to give you an idea” kind of way; he also gives tons of interesting facts about cities and states we might not know about. His focus, as a civil engineer, is infrastructure. It’s not supposed to be highly researched and analyzed, just fun with some interesting takes for people interested in places beyond coastal America.

To me, this is fascinating snapshot content that will one day be fascinating archival material. I give Mileage Mike tons of credit for documenting parts of the country that are many times completely overlooked.

Didn't see anything about a trip on the Bricktown Canal, water taxi & nightlife or Riversport Rapids, our Zoo, Devon Park softball complex, Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, Tinker AFB (largest employer), Oklahoma City Museum of Art, FAM, OKANA ($400 million project under construction). It's obvious he consult with anyone local.

In fairness to Mike, aware he has more videos, just haven't had the time to explore others . . .

Some of y’all seen boring? With a question mark on the thumbnail and thought he called the city boring when almost everything he said praised OKC from infrastructure to the suburbs. He put that to get views on a video where he shed OKC in a good light.
