hedged my bets and decided to try the lock down oge price this year. not expecting a gentle summer.
One good thing tho is we seem to be above average for rainfall for the yr which is much better then this time last yr. I know up here on the northside since last tuesday weve gotten a good 5 inches of rain at least.
I hope the rain continues throughout the year.
Yea it looks that way. Even if it's a normal summer the year will average well above normal. Get used to it!
what is the normal average temperature of oklahoma? -M
Depend on the month. For June it will be 72.8...we are running at 70.8 right now, but only 6 days in.

Garden is loving it so far. Had to shake the plums off our plum trees as they were breaking the limbs. Peaches are good and the tomatoes and strawberries are going like gang-busters.
If the rain keeps up it shouldn't be as hot as last summer. The dry spring turned into a dry summer and without ground moisture intensified the heat. Still drier than normal for this time of year so any long periods of no rain (which are common starting in late June and lasting into September) could change things fast.
thanks... how do you arrive at 72.8? the link for june didn't have this number in it. -MOriginally Posted by venture79
Sorry about that, didn't link June. http://www.srh.noaa.gov/oun/climate/...012&fontsize=3
Down a bit it'll be listed as Average Monthly under Temp Data.
thanks again... so in this case "average" and "normal" are synonymous? is this average over the last several years or from when temperature records began to be collected in oklahoma?Originally Posted by venture79

A 30-year average (1981-2010) is used to calculate the "normal" temperatures. The hottest days of the year are generally July 20 through August 4: normals are high 95, low 73. An average June will be 77.9 degrees (high 88.1, low 67.8), July 83.1 (93.9/72.2), and August 82.4 (93.4/71.3). Last year: June, 84.1; July, 89.2; August, 89.0.
You can snag all those daily and monthly numbers here:

thanks! -M
Supposed to be 90, or close to it, the next several days so that's a bit above normal.
Except for last year I have usually had a decent garden when hail and then heat destroyed nearly everything.
My garden is doing very well this year. I have already picked yellow swash, bell peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, turnips, radishes, and onions.
Living this far south I can usually have a good productive fall garden.
Since this is a bit off topic ….Maybe somebody should start a yard care and garden thread?
