    Default Improve Transportation in Oklahoma??

Oklay, here's your chance to make a statement. Association of Central Oklahoma Governments is asking for everyone to fill out a survey indicating changes you'd like to see in our transportation system. So are you wanting to see more streetscape projects? Rail Transit? Here's an opportunity for your voice to be heard.

Here's the link to the story discussing the survey. You can download the online survey at this link. I encourage everyone to participate. It's not too often that our local government asks for your direct input.

"Survey to assess OKC area's future transportation needs

Transportation is not only a way of life, but a necessity for living. On a daily basis, people who don't have the capacity, either monetarily or otherwise, utilize public transportation to get where they need to be - work, school or the grocery store. And with oil hitting record-high prices, those without a mode of personal transportation soon may be joined by choice riders who feel compelled to ride transit.
Central Oklahomans are being asked to participate in a survey to study the area's future transportation needs. The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments is distributing a survey that will help in the development of the region's long-range transportation plan, known as the Oklahoma City Area Regional Transportation Study Plan for 2030.

"One of the most important components in transportation planning is meeting the demands of the public," said Jerry Church, ACOG spokesman. "This survey allows us to measure the needs of the public, and it helps provide a current pulse for what their future needs may be when it comes to transportation choices."

As the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization, ACOG coordinates regional transportation planning efforts within the metropolitan region, which encompasses all of Oklahoma County and portions of Canadian, Cleveland, Grady, Logan and McClain counties.

Input from the survey primarily is intended to identify strategies to improve auto, bus, pedestrian, truck, rail and bicycle travel for the next two decades. Results will determine the most acceptable means of financing transportation improvements, as well as gauge the level of interest in improving alternative transportation modes.

"Our long-range transportation plan is fiscally constrained, based on federal rules," Church said. "What that means is we don't plan for things that we can't afford. So this survey provides us with details on what the public is willing to support when it comes to looking at funding sources."

The survey can be taken online, or downloaded at www.acogok.org. Submissions can be faxed to 234-2200, mailed to 21 E. Main, Suite 100, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73104, e-mailed to jchurch@acogok.org or taken online through Nov. 5. "
