Thread: Starbucks' Closings

  1. Default Starbucks' Closings

So i saw the one in Del City is closing...big surprise there, NOT!

So now the question is going to be, do you think the two on 29th in MWC will? Or one of them? They don't really compete against each other because the people that go to the one in Target go because it's right there. I know even myself, I wouldn't go at all if it wasn't inside Target. It's too bitter for my taste except the frappaccino. I see them busy all the time, but it's the newer ones that are mostly closing.

I thought that none of the franchised stores (like at Target) were eligible to close- just the company-owned stores.

  3. Default Re: Starbucks' Closings

I think they need to close the stand-alone store and keep the one inside Target open. There is no need to have two in such a close location.

I don't actually know if Target operates the Starbucks inside the store or not. Employees in Starbucks is employed by Target. We are able to use our Target discount card in Starbucks. Hell, they can share the same cups and stuff, between Starbucks and Target's snack bar.

Although I'm a coffee addict, I've never understood the draw of Starbucks. The cold concoctions are ok, but their hot drinks are overrated.

I have tried twice now to get waited on at the Target Starbucks and haven't figured out the "secret" for service. I stood at the counter for 5 minutes on two separate occasions and no one ever appeared to take my order. I give up - they won't get my business.

The MWC stand-alone store is always busy, but I rarely saw that much business in Del City, so no surprise at all. I think that Starbucks has just overbuilt the market, especially with the economy as it is now.

What you should have done is go over to the snack bar side and get assistance.

You do realize that no one can stand at the front waiting for future customers.

Try to apply for a job anywhere and you will see that you will have to go in the back, get supplies, prepare whatever, blah blah blah.

Why would you suggest they close the stand-alone store in MWC? That doesn't make any sense for anyone who wants to swing through the drive-through to get a cup of coffee on their way to work. I would not park and go into Target just to get a cup of coffee...unless they've got a drive-through window on the Target store, your statment seems short-sighted.

The Del City store? no surprise there.

I've actually seen customers stopping at Target just to get coffee inside the Starbucks instead of the drive-thru building. Remember, I work there. I see customers walking in when store opens, get their coffee, then leave. Yeah, I'm always at the door at 8am for my first break after 4 hours.

  8. Default Re: Starbucks' Closings

Yeah, that handful of people you see walk in there to get their coffee at 8am has convinced me you're right. I'm sure the Target store gets TONS more traffic than the stand-alone store does, but never mind the folks who go to work before 8am and want coffee. Yeah, they should DEFINATELY get rid of the stand-alone store.

Thunder - I worked at least 5 years in food service in high school and college. The service industry - whether food or whatever, is supposed to be customer oriented.

Getting supplies is one thing - being gone 5 minutes is ridiculous. And, FYI - no one was at the snack bar either - I did look. Perhaps management could invest $2 to buy a bell? Or a sign saying "be right back"?

The stand-alone store stays busy all day - I doubt that the Target Starbucks has more than 10% the business.
    LOL, sweetdaisy!

Since the Target location was first, my daughter and I used to frequent it, now that the stand alone store is there, we use it exclusively. Even if we are shopping at Target, we use the stand alone store. The quality is MUCH better there. The Del City store also was poor quality as well.

However,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,anyone stop to think that gloating over the loss of a Del City business really is a good thing..............I thought not...............

Not bashing it because it was in Del City, just the times I went there the quality of product was less than stellar!!!

There are several stores in OKC that are good, others that are bad.

On 29th across from Arby's at the corner of the stoplights. It used to be a hot dog place.

My two sons live in DC and I live in Midwest City. We all agree that the DC store is very poorly run. Seems like a bunch of kids running it and they don't seem to know (or care) what they're doing half the time. I have never gotten a good coffee drink from them. My two sons who live in DC drive the extra mile or two to go to the MWC store because they got tired of getting poor service and lousy drinks. Nothing to do with "bashing from MWC folk" as you call it, nor is anyone here (that I can tell) "gloating over the loss of a Del City business". Calm down friend.

the quality of Starbucks burnt coffee is whats off but hello why would close the stand alone location expanded menu drive-thru and longer hours

I was in rogers, arkansas, they will be closing the one there they just opened not too long ago.

    ///edit///

The standalone is a better option to stay open, it's visible from the road, target doesn't have a sign. No one really knows that Starbucks is in there...

Oh, and Thunder, I think I may have worked with you at target. Do you wear glasses and keep your hair about medium length? Brown. Also, do you wear your... i don't know what to call them... uh, hearing aids on the back side of the ear?

No. I work at the MWC Target since November.

I worked at the MWC Target for a whopping 5 weeks before I decided it was for the birds. I worked early morning stocker/puller, 4am to 2pm. Hated every minute of it. That was February to March of '07, so I guess you're right.

I can't believe you quit. You should've at least switch to another position. It is a great store with great team members. I had seen a new guy (probably 18) joined the backroom team, but I guess it worn him out, so he switched to price change team. I've seen plenty of people switching positions.

I started on the flow team and it didn't take long before I was asked to join the presentation team, because they noticed how good I am. I still help out the flow team whenever I need the hours. I also have backroom certificate to do the job there.

I wish I had gotten a job at Target instead of Kmart back in my college days. I hated everything about Kmart. It was an awful place....horrible. No one knew their butt from a hole in the ground. Management hated employees and considered them expendible.

But anyway.....there's no way the Target 'Bucks would stay open if the street one wouldn't....based on traffic. Now, if Target owns the one inside, then it's going to stay as along as they turn any profit. Which tells me that both MWC locations are going to stay. There's no competition from any other coffee shops so people are stuck. If only their coffee didn't suck!
