Anyone know when we might see work resume on the basement walls?
If you look close they have already finished some of the rebar work on the forms they placed prior to the accident. They have been doing what they can while the cranes were down. Accidents happen. Its a dangerous job. Be thankful no one was hurt. Hopefully they will start again soon.
Nice pics, King!
It looks like they started placing forms up again.
Gober would you have any issue with me saving some of these pics and putting them on FB and perhaps another message board? These pictures are awesome and since I can't be there I'd like to put them up.
FYI, the Oklahoman's live cam is back online and on the site again. Sorry for the wait.
The site was completely dead today. Hmm. Maybe they got the Easter weekend off?
Everybody here knows that the pour is over but does anybody remeber that box in the fondation? What was the point of that box being there?
Best guess is the pit for the freight elevator. The box kept it from filling with concrete.
Over the weekend and currently they are putting glass in on the Northeast elevator/stairwell area of the garage. I must say, it looks very nice.
Look at the formwork going up for the 1st floor slab.......cool!
I'm pretty sure that the glass they are using for the garage stairwells is the same that will be used on the tower.
If you notice, it is reflective but also somewhat translucent.
Pete, I don't think it is, at least I hope not. It's not really translucent up close, it looks like the glass on Leadership Square, maybe not quite as glossy, but definitely a strong mirror finish.
I'm not loving the glass corners on the garage. I think the blue glass and style it had before was far more attractive. It's very boxy looking.
But of course the tower itself won't be boxy, even if that's the exact glass they're using.
I think everyone will have to see the entire project before judging a single design feature of a single structure. The architects take the entire project into accout and how one structure, element, etc. works with the rest.
With the work on the 1st floor started, I find myself hitting the refresh button every 5-10 minutes and there is always something new completed. Moving along nicely.
I have to say my initial thoughts would agree with yours. I thought the blue glass was far more attractive than the current reflective smoke glass. However, I could see how on a clear blue day that the more reflective nature of the new glass would reflect the sky better. Of course it is nice and clean now. And from what I can tell this is the same glass that the tower will have.
What I really don't like is that grey mesh they used to cover the eastern side of the new levels of the garage. Horrible. A better choice would have been to use the concrete facade like the lower levels and east garage have. Or, at least do it all the same; I hate the split design even worse than the mesh.
Also, I've wondered just how safe that mesh is. It looks like a vehicle could punch right through that thing at 3-5mph easily. I've hit icy patches in our garage before and slid to the curb stop which our garage has on the upper floors. This one looks like one mistake with the brake and throttle and off you go. Crash and burn.
Or, if they have the urban cowboys and their duallies backing in to the spots like in our garage and I could see them hanging 10 right through that mesh as well.
Regardless of what you think of the aesthetics of the garage and its exterior finishes, code requires that structured parking facilities have vehicle restraints. The perforated steel mesh is not intended to provide that function, it is rather purely aesthetic and allows for the exchange of fresh air. The vehicle restraints were clearly evident prior and during the installation of the panels. They have steel tensioned cables that can resist a vehicle impact within a specific guideline as set by the building code. So at least on that one you can put off any plans of hoping to be the one to catch photos of several dualies projecting out of the garage on the first day it is open all the way up.
Also with respect to your previous post, remember that there will be a sizable building on the south side of the parking structure that will prevent the view of the old versus the new garage issue you were having, and the West sidewill be completely new when completed so the only place it will really be visible would be the north side facing the alley, and the access road between the two garages but that will be the mesh panel so it will simply look like one of the material combinations and not out of place especially once the rest of the buildings are on site.
Now that you mention that, I think I recall seeing some cables up prior to the mesh being installed. At the time, I just thought those were solely fall protection devices for the work crews.
Well, it's just a garage I realize, but still not a fan of the mesh. I wouldn't go as far as saying that design element is "fugly", but it's not what I would call attractive. When viewing that corridor from the north, the two garages lack any symmetry at all, which probably would have been nice to have. A matching facade would have aided that, given the different heights. And I've seen where concrete facades offer some interesting design elements and that mesh just seems like a cost compromise.
To each their own as they say I guess.

If you look at the rendered schemes of the West side of the garage, I believe it depicts the same mesh material on the upper floors.
And, I wonder why they decided to go with the precast punched window panels on the South side of the garage when it will be obstructed by the Podium building. From the sections I've seen it appears there is a 15-20 foot gap between the two.
Ahh... Come on folks! Pictures! Bloody pictures! Withdrawals are beginning to kick in. Don't make me have to drive 540 miles north so I can grab some images! I can't do that until May 15!
Continue the Renaissance!!!
I may go snap some tonight, but depends on a few things. I'll get some within the next few days for sure.
