West Okc residents go to Mustang or Yukon to shop. East residents go to Midwest City.
all of those cities exist because of OKLAHOMA CITY, you know - that's why their suburbs of the Oklahoma City metropolitian area

and not the Yukon Metro area or Norman Metro area.

And WAY more people shop than just police and firefighters. Some of you Not this proponents ONLY CARE about your own issues and nobody else. Your statement iron would leave one to believe that every person in Moore or Norman were firefighters or policeman.

Moore and Norman have what they have because of their close proximity to OKC. Don't they use OKC's demographics when they court businesses to come to their community? Im sure the 1.3M residents of OKC metro comes into play there (and the biggest single chunk of people comes from OKC city, not any one suburb - regardless of the target demographic).

Let's don't get too carried away here - on tv or the news, it's always Oklahoma City or it's suburbs. That's the free ride that the suburbs benefit from.

That being said - I'm happy for the metro and OKC that the Oklahoma Factory Shoppes is being built in the West. Downtown or the inner city is not the place to put factory outlet malls *or any mall for that matter.

Exactly. And as soon as you go east on I-40 past downtown and some industrial areas, you are in Del City and MWC. Areas north of those suburbs are much less dense, so of course they drive south to those areas.

Southside has had plenty of options in the past at Crossroads and along I-240. They let those shopping centers fall into disrepair by fleeing to newer trendy shopping areas in Moore.

And there is a huge reverse effect in Edmond, where a huge chunk of the shopping and dining and the only mall is in OKC.

There are also no malls in Moore, Yukon, or Midwest City. Penn Square is a major tax-revenue generator.

There have been major retail developments in the last 10 years in the Belle Isle area, all around Penn Square, at Council and NW Expressway, and the Westgate Marketplace area. I REALLY, REALLY, don't see what populated areas of the OKC city limits are lacking in retail options (other than downtown of course).

A sign was being put up facing I40 showing outlet shoppes coming soon. While this is a good sign (being figurative), it's still not 100% done deal.

I knew they would start this back up again! Only a matter of time.

I saw that sign going up! I got a bit excited. At least it is moving somewhat forward. Hopefully that will bring more stores somehow.

i also saw the sign when is construction gonna start?

Is this still by the same Horizon Development company that originally started this?

Has the Chamber of Commerce been talking to these developers about maybe some local stores are cafes having space. It sounds like they are on the threshhold of opening but need just a few more stores. The Chamber could make this happen!

That would be pretty unusual for an outlet mall.

This would be a great thing for OKC and hopefully keep some of our dollars from going to Texas. Only if we can spend our money locally will it bring other national chains to OKC, such as Tulsa getting an Anthropoligie store. I'm excited about Whole Foods and the likelihood of an outlet mall. We are progressing, slowly, but at least it's in the right direction.

Actually, I think the "spend money locally" is an easy excuse. In reality, one of the things the national stores like Anthropologie look at is where their catalog sales come from and how many people are shopping at their stores from particular regions. They'll ask you for your zip code if you buy something, and that's why. If that's one of their criteria, it is diametrically opposed to the shop local concept.

But, if we get the stores I want in the Factory Shoppes, I'll be excited to have that as an additional shopping option.

Norman certainly doesn't exist because of OKC. The lame parts of Norman, yes, but not most of Norman..

im sure more people in Norman depend on OKC than people in OKC depend on Norman.

Just a quick update on the Factory Shoppes.

I drove by today and they are prepping to start moving dirt as early as this coming week. They have a blue retaining mesh up all around the proposed site and have placed a coming soon sign facing I-40. They have a couple large dirt movers parked and ready to go.

What's your source knowing they are going to start dirtwork soon? They've had the sign up for awhile now and have had equipment on there.
