The state corporation will have to bring those oil wells in the area under control.
From an article in today’s Oklahoman:
On Saturday, a corporation commission spokesman said Oklahoma’s 3.0 magnitude and greater earthquake activity has dropped by more than 98 percent since 2017 since the commission initiated large-scale actions in 2015.
In a statement, the commission said:
"Our OCC Induced Seismicity Dept is researching these quakes. The quakes that occurred years ago (2014-2017) in the area were linked to oil and gas wastewater disposal wells that used the deep Arbuckle formation. They were shut down by the OCC years ago. Hydraulic fracturing has been linked to quakes in other areas, but there are no such activities in the Arcadia area."
Earthquake?
Just felt a big one in Edmond.
Felt it strong near downtown. Seemed to last a long time.
I felt it and startled me in Stillwater. I'm just glad it it's over and wasn't any worse. It's up there as one of the worst ones for being scary to me.
Someone from Joplin said they felt it. 5.1 magnitude, epicenter in Prague, OK.
I never feel them. The only one I remember feeling was the Kirk herstreit one
Extremely strong in Tulsa. Must’ve been the relatively shallow depth
Oh, yeah, he was famous for the surprised look on his face on camera when an earthquake happened after the OSU game.
I hear them and feel them both, if not asleep. This latest one had thunder in the distance. Some of them come with a startlingly loud clap of thunder.
