That rug really tied the room together, Dude. Did it not?

People have started moving in. We were walking by a couple of nights ago and saw some folks coming out of an apartment. They said they were really excited to be there.

They had shutters on them last week - did they remove them again?

I don't like how the stucco looks. You can see all the rectangular panels that the stucco is covering. I seems like it should be a thicker coating or something...or is it just me?

It’s not just you. It was the first thing I noticed when I drove by.

Looks like they took the low stucco bid

Maybe they took the shutters off to redo the stucco?

That doesn’t look like real stucco and the process they used didn’t resemble real stucco construction.

I rolled by yesterday, and they have almost completed this project. They commissioned Dusty Gilpin, OkieDust, to paint the numbers. That's a really nice touch!

I’m posting this image to compare the design and the final product. I wish they had stuck to their original plan; it looks much more authentic and elegant.

This shows the effect that just a touch of value engineering can do. I'll bet they barely shaved anything off the total project cost, but the visual appeal diminished significantly.

Some things are naturally going to change a bit from concept to reality, and of course the vegetation shown is all mature. The things that drive me nuts are cutting back on window treatments and the sloppy stucco work. Looks like the backing boards are already buckling and getting ready to pop out. I'll bet they have to re-stucco within a few years (if not within a few months).

I completely agree. If you look at the photos Pete added to Cafe do Brasil showing the updated stucco, it is clear the Spaniard contractors did a horrible job. To me, it doesn't even look complete.

The roof looks pretty bad as well, and this window bothers me so much lol.

There are so many problems now that I am looking for them. They aren't going to paint the stairs, I guess. That window has a strange location, and the framing looks bad. It needs a border at the bottom because it is painted over cement. It is so odd.
