This is an innocent observation: it seems to me that these missteps are gonna make it hard to believe that Lincoln Riley isn’t gonna be farther ahead in getting into the living room of any top recruit. Mike Gundy has done a good job of recruiting the older part of the fan base with his OANN endorsement in April, and T shirt photo. I think he’s gonna have to work extra hard to recruit over it

As far as what 2 NFL players claim he said 30 years ago is just babble unless there is documentation from back then. Anyone can claim anything about anyone.
FYI, Sam Mayes played four seasons (2001-2004) and was an all-American.

More importantly, he is a graduate of Oklahoma State University.

Here's some good OSU news today:
"Potential No. 1 NBA draft pick Cade Cunningham announced Monday that he is sticking with his commitment to Oklahoma State despite the NCAA giving the Cowboys a postseason ban for next season."

    More good news for OSU:

UPDATE: The making and creation of this film has been an incredible journey. Our team is so proud of what we have accomplished. It’s with great pride that today we can officially announce that we've signed a primetime deal with ESPN!!! #EddieFilm (more details to follow soon)

I would be hard pressed to see how a dark version of the Eddie Sutton story would be produced with the hope of being picked up by ESPN, or anyone else.

Well, let’s see. Sutton’s accomplishments were overshadowed by his issues for years keeping him out of the hall of fame until this year so obviously to many the negatives outweigh the positives.

At least Gundy's son was setting a good example for his dad. He was wearing an OSU shirt.

To be fair the author of that piece was also the author of the SI article which many felt was unsubstantiated hit piece on OSU. Take it with a grain of salt.

The writer that most people took issue with in the SI piece was Thayer Evans,

You're right. I was mistaken. That's what I get for trying to stick up for OSU

For what it's worth, I've been an OSU fan my entire life, and I've had problems with Gundy for some time. I'm glad this is coming to light.

I read on Awful Announcing yesterday that ESPN has been working with OSU for many weeks, or months, on a series devoted to coach Gundy and Oklahoma State. It is slated for ESPN+ as part of their deal with the Big12, and is described that it will "mirror" the "Miles To Go" series. That was a multi part program on ESPN+ which followed Les Miles as he took the Kansas HC job, and provided enhanced access into his personal and professional life during the season. I'm gonna suggest that they were working the angle of the "maverick" Mike Gundy, and got caught up in the social upheaval of the last couple months. That took the endorsement of OAN in April (and the shirt a few weeks later) from "goofy" to toxic.

I think this deal had a role in ESPN picking up the Eddie Sutton documentary.

Eddie Sutton documentary airing Monday at 8pm on ESPN.

I don’t think the Documentary is going to be very “dark” based on the commercial.

It's not going to be dark. That was just an OU fan being an OU fan.

Also, after the Eddie documentary airs, ESPN is showing a documentary on Bryant "Big Country" Reeves.

And the documentary on Big Country airs on Wednesday at 7

If you weren't able to catch 'Eddie', you should really go watch it on ESPN Plus. It's very good and tells a complete story about his career. Parts of it are eye-opening. As Sean Sutton said, you can't tell the good without the bad.

I recorded it and have watched it a couple times. I was wrong in my original reply. it is dark. Very good, but the majority is about struggle and failure, IMO.

    Interesting development here: https://www.tulsaworld.com/sports/co...9ae000eda.html

During a 40-minute Zoom conference with media members on Friday, Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder reported that football coach Mike Gundy voluntarily has accepted a $1 million pay cut.
