They didn't really have much control over how it was built up there. MidtownR set it up the way they wanted it when the building was renovated and Packard has the right to use it along with the buildings other tenants.

I see. I wonder if MidtownR's designers and builders are basing their rooftop terraces on other designs that are out of state and quite a lot more common or they're just going with how they think it should be done. Seems to me you would incorporate something like that for future build out if anything.

You would think so, but I have know idea. I know a few of the employees there aren't crazy about how it was designed, but it's tough to knock much of what MidtownR has done so far.

Went by. Wish they would have left the original brick...yellow paint is a little funky. Just my opinion.

The brick was not original; it was painted that brown color. I think this color is a painted approximation of the original brick color, below the old paint. The south (alley) secondary facade that you see in the photo is bare brick, apparently never painted. The optimal resolution would have been removal of the other paint - paint over brick can cause long-term damage such as spalling when water gets behind it - but probably would have looked much like what you see now.

I guess I am the only one who likes it. Especially when compared against the north side of the building which just looks run down. I was wondering if there are any plans to paint the north side in the future.

It's a historic chair of some nature. I can't remember exactly what, but it seems like an impediment in that space once the Garage opens and that area presumably gets used more. Maybe they'll move it by then as the Garage hasn't even started. By the way, what's the hold up on that project?

I have no idea what the hold up is, but The Garage still seems like a bad fit for that space.

I think they will do fine, but I would much rather have seen anything other than a burger joint there. Smack dab in-between S&B, Tuckers and Irma's. The last thing that they needed there was another burger place.

None of those places are very good places to stay, drink, and catch a game. That's why it's different. People go to the Garage just to drink unlike the other places you listed. It's as a much a bar as burger joint.

I wonder if the Garage will have time of operations restrictions? I think Packard does as they close something like 11pm on weekends... Which is crazy.

The people working the Packard said it had to do with the residents of Guardian being so close.

I went on Saturday night to the rooftop and they do close at 11, even though they let the people who are already there stay to finish. It was really cool and nice up there, although the bar was a little small and they only had a limited variety of drinks up there. I will def go back.

Side note: It was our first time and I thought it was going to be just a chill rooftop bar so we went right after the movies and I felt severely underdressed. I wore nice plaid shorts and a tree and leaf thunder shirt. Everyone else was wearing slacks or khaki shorts with button ups or collared shirts, and girls were wearing variety of dresses. So dress accordingly.

Packard's rooftop activities are restricted by a city noise ordinance that prevents them from playing loud music, etc after 11:00 pm but they can and have been staying open later than that. Some asshat at hadden hall (or which ever apartments are right next to the patio) apparently failed to realize that he or she was renting an apartment in the middle of downtown and complains when it is "too loud". As far as being open later than that, they just don't want to be open much later than 12 right now. Among other reasons, they would have to hire more staff, bartenders, managers, etc to handle the extra hours for 2-3 days a week or further stress the already somewhat short staff.

On another note, they are going to be closed on Mondays from now on and open for brunch on Saturday and Sunday starting this weekend. The brunch menu is awesome so it should be a nice addition to our ever expanding brunch selection.

... and it's interesting previous look from a few decades earlier. Anyone here ever get a three point brew or a keg from the former Pat's 10th Street Lounge ? For awhile there as we passed by the 10th street side we could all rest assured that someone associated with this building was a huge Led Zeppelin IV fan.

It's hard to describe how neglected Midtown was in the 80s and most the 90s.

Virtually every building was boarded up and many were simply bulldozed during that era because nobody wanted them.

I did indeed visit Pat’s a couple of times in the nineties, more or less on a dare. Each time it was a bit friendlier than I expected. My understanding is that it was owned by the brother and/or mom of the owner of Sipango.
