I was with Jimmie, Kathy and Suzanne tonight. I just saw Carol this past summer. I would tell Kathy "Hi" for you if you would give me a hint who you are. Send me a PM and let me know.

It'w really hard to believe this thread has lasted as long as it has....79 pages????....Now, down to business...Did Grant have an automotive class in your days at Grant? And, was the rifle club still active?...I remember that they (the rifle club) practiced in the basement of Grant....

There was still Vocational Training in 1969. That's what the car shop was
called back then. It was the hardest class to get into.

I don't remember the Rifle Club. I never went to the basement.

Yes in fact I took auto mechanics in my junior year, the class was right south of the the auto paint and body class, we had a tool room where you had to check out the tools you needed and returned them to get them checked back off the list. The teacher was so cool, not a bunch of book work it was all hands on work with his guidance..it was a blast.

Our nine weeks test was a breeze, it was a verbal test:"WHERE DOES THE STEERING WHEEL GO, IN THE FRONT SEAT AREA OR THE BACK SEAT AREA".....the front seat!...."THATS CORRECT YOU MAKE AN A+"

As far as the rifle range, that was always a close guarded mystery. No one from our class even seen the basement. I always heard rumors of a swimming pool , but never really followed up on it. Was to busy chasing skirts back then!

So everyone realizes the true fact.....when you were headed to the Gym/Cafeteria there was bathroom and then right next to it, there was a door that went to the basement. And, in the darkness of U.S. Grant Highschool there was a rifle range......Think you could have that now?.....You had to belong to the club and they shot .22 rifles only down there.....If you look at a Grant Yearbook from '66 back you'll see the kids in the Rifle club......

I remember that door. Mr. Semrad used to duck into it and a few minutes
later a a masked man in a red union suit was sticking parking warnings and
those huge sheets of gluey paper on windshields.

    Coincidence?

I have always said that if you have enough of ANYthing, you can make art out of it.

I think Mr. Manjaras was the Spanish teacher when I went to Grant. Have
you ever noticed we don't call it U.S. Grant?

Put me down for a locker handle! I think it'll make a nice hood ornament on
    Prunette's car. I'll surprise her.

The school I graduated from had a rifle team. The rifles were high profile
target rifles. You could shoot the wings off a fly with them.

At our reunions, rifle shooting is one of the big things. I scored 100. I was
so proud. Got a trophy plaque and everything. My brothers and I enjoyed
shooting when we were kids. Dad would set up .410 casings - those are
small empty shotgun shells - and we'd shoot them with our .22's. We'd
shoot for hours and miss maybe once an hour, then we'd banter how
pitiful of shot the other was. HAHAHA!

I always wondered how Grant had a swimming team while we didn't have a
pool. DUH, the YMCA down the street. We were members there for a
    while.

An excuse slip doesn't work without an authentically forged signature of
    Everett Semrad.
