Not to toot my own horn, but like every self-absorbed Millennial, I started a blog.
As a part of this endeavor, I have begun to document the boulevard project from my perspective:
Part 1: The Better Boulevard ? Part I, Market Circle | Andrew Stewart
Part 2: The Better Boulevard ? Part II, Thunder Circle | Andrew Stewart
Part 3 “The Grid” is in process.
Too bad we can't tag posters in posts. It'd be nice for OKVision4U to see this and realize that even if this did happen, it takes planning and time to do it. Can't just plop it down from thin air!
Anyone wanna update a schmuck in Ohio?
Why not? We usually do (and it shows). There is NOTHING wrong with being pesky and causing delays in the interest of bettering downtown. This mentality of "build a road, any road, just do it now" - that isn't what got OKC this far.
ODOT and the Feds get to move on to the next project, and will. Once they have washed their hands of OKC Blvd, THEN and only then does get to live with it.
CDM, you are the bee's knees. Although I'm a wee bit too old to use that phrase, and therefore don't do so lightly, I feel confident it my assessment. I'm adding your blog to my Feedly post haste. I definitely look forward to viewing all of your forthcoming posts. Keep it up!
Has there been any analysis to see what it would cost to buy the buildings on Reno between Western and Classen to make this happen? If I am looking at your rendings correctly, it looks like that is all that has to be removed to make this happen. The rest of it would already be included in the ROW for ODOT. I am curious what this would cost versus the bridge that has been brought up.
The original scheme for the Market Circle would require a significant amount of ROW acquisition, no doubt. Alternate "A" as proposed by ODOT requires very little acquisition. They are showing a curved section of street joining Classen and Western between the McDonalds and Horn Trader.
Okok - This plan by CuatrodeMayo IS exactly what we need for the BLVD. I said this over a month ago. I understand the process in it's entirety, I just don't get to caught up in the "fog" of projects. It just doesn't take me (6) months to decide that I want this design. I'm all in. I'm looking at this from a 50,000 ft view and not in the City Halls of We Can't Do IT. These type(s) of high design / high value are accomplished all over the US and in short fashion too. This design by CautrodeMayo should be the STANDARD. He get's it too.
Okok...
Dude, we all would love what "May the Fourth" has designed. Unfortunately Oklahoma doesn't have a GDP like that of, say, the UAE, or princes made out of gold to formulate and pay for wonderfully designed projects like this. If OKC could find a way to pay for such a future investment, OKC would be beyond a city on the rise!
Okok... I think the word you are looking for is Affordability. Here is the answer for you, ..."OKC can't afford to go small" in this case. We can't afford to put millions of dollars in a vital part of the city, and only get an "inferior product". ( Did I ever say "layered" in Gold, NO, I didn't. I said High Design / High Value ! ) ....a world of difference. This concept may be over your head, but it is exaclty what the city needs.
You are never go to get through to people if you keep disrespecting them, unless, of course, that is what you are here for. Most people on this forum will ask if they don't understand something. You don't have to be an @$$ about it and assume something is over their head.
Now, regarding the Boulevard itself, if you want to have a say in it, you need to contact ODOT. You need to contact the mayoral council (not sure where you live, but whoever is over your ward would be the best). You need to contact Eric Wenger, Director of Public Works/City Engineer for OKC. You need to contact Gary Evans, the State Deputy Highway Director. You need to contact Bob Kemper who is on this forum and is the coordinator of Friends for a Better Boulevard.
Until then, all you are doing is sounding like a 12 year old wanting to go to Disney World and your parents are just ignoring you so you begin insulting them hoping that will make things happen.
Oh...so you're saying like build it like a movie set...where everything is technically cast in papier-mache and then painted on the outside to look like the real deal. Why then YES! Oh Kay Cee can afford anything!
PS...hope that doesn't go over your head cause two can play your silly insult game, lol...
Bellaboo & warreng88, you two are too kind! In all sincerity, it's not hard to misinterpret what OKVision4U is trying to get out through the keyboard. Sometimes he's a puzzle like RadicalModerate (please don't be mad RM as I'm not trying to bring you down to his level). They're just both enigmas in their own right, lol.
NO. That must be a ( day - in -the - life ) at your house. ...and okokokok, I really don't need any manners tips from you ( your photo kinda speaks volumes for you. ) and refering to me as an A$$ ? it's always easy to type it when they are not standing next to you.
Now, Disney World, we have Lifetime Passes for my family. Everybody's happy here.
You are only about 18 months behind on this. The people that understand the process and the relevant issues have made a very effective case to the agencies that matter. You need to read a lot of federal regulations - start with NEPA - and a lot of history on this street, listen to and take in what many people here have tried to tell you, then listen a bit more, and maybe you will finally understand where the city is on this project. Just because you do not see anything does not mean nothing is happening to make this the best boulevard possible within the restraints of reasonable expectation. Temper the enthusiasm with some knowledge and you will be taken more seriously.
This guy has to be a plant.
I'd just like to see what he looks like.......
Who designed those renderings?????
