Their website is touting a Friday, 11/11/11 only sale of whole uncooked chickens for $1.29/pound.
Sorry, I'm not driving 30 miles round trip for a chicken.
This thread has degenerated from a discussion about a commercial property development to saavy shopper reports.
Pete - about time for a thread lock?
Went in for a second time today so I could actually look around. The produce section is smaaaaaallllllllll. I was pretty disappointed.
Does Whole Foods have fresh or packaged Fennel?
I hope so. I hope they can beat the Homeland price and availability.
I don't really care if the fennel is organic.
I just need fennel for an upcoming recipe.
I don't like being disappointed.
Fennel is good.
Not matter how you use it.
I'm hoping Whole Foods meets the cost/value balance regarding fennel.
Not to mention a being a place where one can take a leek.
(Not exactly "take" but pay for.)
Finally got around to visiting Whole Foods, this morning and enjoyed it. It was crowded, inside, but the parking lot was fine and we didn't even have a line to check out. It wouldn't be where I would shop, weekly, but nice to have a place to get some specialty stuff with company coming in for the holiday. We asked two different employees if they had an item and neither knew if they even carried it. We ended up finding it in a large end cap, prominently displayed for the Thanksgiving holiday. They don't seem to cross train between departments although both clerks were working within two aisles of where we found it (one was stocking the prepared food and the other was cutting through the frozen food). Pretty meat market. Lots of different kinds of bratz that caught my eye.
I went to WF this past weekend and it was packed, well atleast I thought it was,the Checker said it was average but I went to buy some Thanksgiving food.My favorite food is Sushi and I thought I'd try WF's out,I got the avacado/california roll and it was delicious and only 8$!I enjoy going to these specialty grocery stores alot more than WM or Crest, just alot better experience!
I was thinking the store would be bigger than it is. My old neighborhood wal-mart was bigger. Still, it looks like a great store.
Today's Wall Street Journal reports on a Whole Foods location being built in Detroit, and how the local demographics are entirely contrary to what WF typically targets:
Population change 2000-2010: -25%.
Race: Blacks 82.7%, whites 10.6%.
Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in population age 25+: 11.8%.
Homeownership: 54.5%.
Median household income: $28,357.
Retail sales per capita: $3,567.
Yes, government tax credits and grants are being paid to the site's developer, and yes, existing local grocers are complaining about it. On the other hand, "Whole Foods says it expects its prices will generally be lower than those of local supermarkets." This is something much needed by Detroit which does not have a single chain grocery store (http://money.cnn.com/2009/07/22/smal...ry_stores.smb/).
Does the east side of OKC have a chain grocery store? South side of Dallas? The pattern here is clear - though we choose not to speak of it. Can you blame the chains though? Crime, crime and more crime - plus you have to have uniformed officers walk the aisles, all of that is big money to have to shell out.
Chicago has a big problem with food deserts too, especially on the south side.

I have been hearing some talk that Whole Foods is going to put another another store in the OKC region somehwere because of how well they have done with their one store. Has anybody else heard anything about this? I would suspect Norman and Edmond would be on the list, but I would guess Edmond would get it before Norman because of the money. With that said, we really need something better than what we got in Norman. I hear Crest and Sunflower market are coming to Norman also. I would suspect with the University here, a Whole Foods investment would do well.
Anybody know anything?
This article from okcBIZ says Moore is agressively pursuing a Whole Foods. I'm not sure of the likelihood of that happening though.
http://okc.biz/oklahoma/article-6204...-business.html
Moore doesn't seem like a Whole Foods type of place...
I think Whole Foods would fit more in Norman.
If moore is going after it then you can count on it never getting to Norman. Moore steals every decent business away from Norman. They are the bully big brother.
OK, Moore is the little brother that can beat up the older brother. Everybody is embarrassed for the big brother. lol
Incentives make a big difference in location, that is why Ikea is in Centennial instead of Denver or why they are in Round Rock instead of Austin and why Cabela's is in Buda....or why Bass Pro is in Bricktown instead of further down I-40 by the outlet mall. I can see Whole Foods going into Moore if they are offering incentives. I think they are locating one in a depressed area of Detroit because of the incentives the city provided.
