My definition of a slow car is 18 sec+ 1/4 mile,my def. of a quick car is 14-18 sec 1/4mile,my def. of a fast car is13-14 sec 1/4mile,and race ready is under 13!but it's all relative to whats fast to YOU!I'd be happy with a mid-13 car, with a stickshift!thats quick enough but not over doing it!
Thanks for clearing that up. I might set the bar a little bit higher than what you have because nowdays there are 4 door sedans that run quicker than mid 13's in the quarter. But anyway...
Back to my earlier point, about the guy with the Mazda B2500 pickup. Let's say he had big plans for the truck including not only the 400 horse motor but also new paint, wheels, tires, suspension, brakes, transmission, interior, etc. And then lets say that after some figuring, he estimated all of costs to complete his truck to be around $35k. Now, im not body shop guy or mechanic i just used that figure for the sake of discussion. It could be more or less...depending on many factors.
So he is faced with the $35k decision, (assuming too that he owns the truck outright) he could spend all of this money fixing up the truck and making it something special and unique, even though it is his only vehicle and he would never get anything close to what he put into it if he decides to sell it. Or he could spend the same money and get a brand new muscle car like the 2011 Mustang 5.0 or the Camaro SS, both of which would give you the type of performance you consider "fast, race ready" or something you would be happy with (not, by your standards, slow).
And i just picked out those two examples because they are popular brands, there are others that could be used in their place. I respect someone who wants to build a car and make it their own. But a mazda truck? If someone really wants to build a fast hot rod why not find an old project Chevelle or something like that?
Cheers

What is it?
What 4 door sedan do you know run's mid 13's or lower?A sport's sedan? or your run of The mill sedan?my Uncle's Ford Lightning pickup runs mid 13's and it's got a 385 HP Supercharged 5.4Liter V8,and this is a truck!SO tell me which sedan runs that kinda Quarter time?maybe a WRX STI,or maybe an EVO?Hell even STOCK Ferrari's and Lambo's and The Z06 Vette run around 12's!
Cadillac CTS-V comes to mind, actually it runs low to mid 12's thanks to the 556 horse LSA motor. Also the now desceased Pontiac G8 GXP sedan ran pretty strong (low 13's or high 12's ) with the LS3. Thats off the top of my head though, i know Lexus has a couple of low 13 sec sedans as does Mercedes, BMW, etc. And the Charger SRT8 also runs a low 13 as well with the 6.1 Hemi.
^Those are not your run of The Mill Sedans! Those are expensive Sport's Sedans,That are geared to GO FAST!
calm down there hero.
Obviously your definition of "run of the mill" or whatever isnt going to run 12's or 13's in the 1/4. If your talking Accords and Camry's then NO, they arent going to go that fast. I dont know what your definition of expensive is either, but several of the ones i mentioned can (or could be) had for under $50k. Im thinking the Charger and the discontinued G8 GXP were under $40, but i could be wrong.
LOL! HERO? yeah I'm sorry, sometimes I might come across to some as a Jackass,so my bad! To me 50k is alot for a vehicle,The most I've ever spent on a ride is 32k,and that was a 2002 regency Silverado-man I loved that truck!also those G8 GXP's are awesom looking! And did you know The know the 2011 V6 mustang will have 305 HP? WOW!
oh no problem, i think your punctuation and caps just make you seen a bit...excitable...thats all.
Yeah the 2011 Mustang lineup just got a bit sweeter thanks to the bump in HP for the V6 and the return of the 5.0. Of course they had to do something since the Camaro has been beating the Mustang in sales since its return last year. This should even the playing field a bit, since boths cars are similiar in HP (both base models and the V8 models too) though the Mustang still has a 260 pound weight advantage.
Mustangs ARENT exotics folks. Let's get back to talking about real exotic cars.
The lambo outside of Mantels in Bricktown.
There's been a black lambo hanging out around Casady (Penn & Britton) a lot lately.
Question for the Lambo doc, out of curiousity what is normal maintenance like on your car (cost wise)? Also, just curious, do you have your car serviced locally? Im only asking because im not sure how many mechanics around town could work on a Lambo. Thanks!
if you can afford a Lambo, you can afford to ship it to Dallas or Atlanta for work. I know a guy who ships his Porche Cayenne to Europe for performance work.
all that money... what I wouldn't do for just $40k
well thats interesting, dont we have a new Porsche dealer here in the city? Im thinking Bob Moore....surely they have a certified mechanic. Maybe your friend really trusts the guy in Europe.
I wouldnt doubt anyone could afford the expense, i was thinking more about the inconvenience of having to ship a car out of state, etc.
