If you order a Coconut Cream pie at Pioneer Pies, or any other restaurant,
there won't be any meringue. The topping will be whipped cream out of a
    can, or something similar.

Meringue is an art to make. It shouldn't be higher than the filling and it should
be toasted a skosh with a wee bit of sweating.

Mom made awesome lemon and chocolate meringue pies. Not our mom, but
    my mom.

If you don't know the difference then fergitit!

I prefer the creme toppings over meringue for the most part but on some pies like strawberry or chocolate it should be a creme topping, but a lemon meringue pie is what the name is about. In our pie runs all over Texas with a motorcycle group down here I have found most places do meringue over creme. Most are small town mom 'n pop type cafes and they still seem to take pride in doing it right. They are out there, you might just have to hunt for them.

Yes it was. But the cost of embalming became cost prohibitive so they
decided to turn it into a BBQ place. It was originally called Undertaker. They
couldn't afford a new sign so they told the sign painter to write 'woods' over
the 'taker' part. It worked out fine.

    True story.

Fresh meat delivered in the back. Careful of the rats. Pay no attention to the howling dogs.

That was Count Gregor you saw leaving.

Does anyone remember the owner of Underwood's? Dub! He was a real tall and slim "cowboy" who loved to drink. He could pass for an undertaker. John Carradine

What was the name of the burger joint at S.W. 44th and Agnew? I loved their burgers and fritto chili pies. Also would like to know the name of the burger joint at S.W. 59th and Blackwelder.

I remember Wilkerson's but it wasn't on Agnew. Which corner was it on?

Not sure about the burger joint on 59th and Blackwelder. I rode through that
intersection everyday and I don't remember a burger joint. Were these on the
    corner or a ways off?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------Wilkerson's was East of Agnew on 44th st. on the North Side across from Penn 44 Bowling alley.

59th/ Blackwelder is where Jimmy's Round-up is located now. But, a ways east on the Southside there was a Whataburger. Might still be there......

Was Wilkerson's on Barnes? I can drive there with my eyes closed!
Penn-44 made great burgers and fries. I think the pizza burger was
invented there, then there was Holiday Lanes, they had a great pizza
    burger, too.

    The S.W. 59th & S. Blackwelder place still doesn't ring a bell. Maybe I'll
    cruise it after the meeting.

The burger joint at 44th and Agnew was on the S.W. corner close to the cemetery. The burger joint on 59th and Blackwelder was on the S.E. corner.

Thanks 64!! Now I remember Keirn's..I used to walk from Calvin Coolidge at lunch time and get hamburgers and frito chili pies. Now if I could find out the name of the burger joint at S.W. 59th & Blackwelder (S.E. corner) my curiousity can be put to rest.
