Not sure if he was isolated in coverage or there was a bust or what but he actually had to choose between covering Stogner in the flat or Anderson on the corner route and picked Stogner. He saw DG throw it and broke to the corner but it was too late. It looks like 33 was supposed to cover the hook to curl area and sink to the deep third but just sat in the flat. 33 also might’ve been the one that was supposed to pick up Stogner and 28 sink to the corner but both ended up staying shallow.
I think the recruits mostly sit in the stands for the game. You could see a bunch of them and their families in black on the east side of the stadium in the middle. Both teams hosted recruits…though I’m sure the home team has more leeway with what they can do with them.
correct. whomever is listed as "Home" can actually treat it as an official visit, and have coaches talk with them, etc. the "Away" team has to play it a bit closer to the belt. if the recruits just happen to end up in a hallway with current players and they talk, well okay.
I saw a pretty in depth explanation of what happened and you are right and it all stems from #4 (Anderson) going in motion from the right to the left side. You can see #2 for Texas signal to the other DB's/LB's to pick him up and then it was a blown assignment by #33. #28 was supposed to cover Stogner, #33 was supposed to cover Anderson.

Had to dig for this - Seems like the home team in the Cotton Bowl benefits.
"With Texas being the home team, they've been able to invite a good number of guys, and that's a built-in benefit. The Cotton Bowl is in a recruiting hotbed. They can get a lot of these big-name targets that both of these programs are going after year after year."
Toby Keith was at the OU hockey club's game last night and talked them up big time on the broadcast!
Games like today's might have something to do with me having a cardiologist now.
On one hand, that’s amongst the ugliest wins I’ve seen from OU. On the other, that’s a game they lose last year and maybe even prior years, so you can see the improvement.
I think that’s a difference down to coaching philosophy. The speedy, undersized style Lincoln Riley had versus the physical, power system Brent Venables seems to prefer plays out in close games. That emphasis on being physical really helped at the end as UCF got tired.
UCF Knights 29 @ Oklahoma Sooners 31
Attendance: 83,476
Ugly game but a win is a win! I am worried about the Kansas game since Kansas is very good and could lose to them in Lawrence
Just win they will be fine. All the other teams in front the them have much tougher games ahead.
OU opens as a 10 point fav at KU. Total is 66.5.
Win out and they have a good chance at the playoff. Now, and this is from a diehard Sooner fan and alum. Yes they are MUCH better than last year and maybe for a few years. But are they on par with Michigan, Georgia and ??
I'm not sure I want another "make the playoff and get beat by 4 TDs in the first round" year. That does nothing good for recruiting/retaining top players. I'd rather wait a year and maybe be a truly solid championship contender.
I hate to say this, but there is a scenario where OU wins out and still doesn't make the CFP. Currently it is Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, FSU, Washington and OU as 1-6. If UGA, Michigan/OSU, FSU and Washington win out, there would be a good argument that it is the top four and OU is left on the sideline.
UGA still has to beat Mizzou, Ole Miss and Tennessee (all ranked).
Michigan has to beat Penn State and Ohio State (ranked).
Ohio State just has to beat a ranked UM team (rest of the teams unranked).
FSU has no current ranked teams on their schedule.
Washington has to beat USC, Utah and Oregon State (all ranked).
OU currently has no ranked teams on their schedule remaining except for, presumably Texas in the Big 12 championship. The only argument to be made would be for OU over Florida State. If the UM OSU game is close, there would be an argument to keep one of those over OU as they are currently 2/3 in the country.
^^ Although that is a possible scenario, the odds of having 5 undefeated teams at the end of the year are practically zero.
