Oklahoma City Thunder 2021-22 season

Shai looked like an absolute star last night. Really the first time I've started envisioning him as a possible top 10 player in the league. I also loved seeing more of Ty Jerome last night. I really like his game. Lastly, let me aplogize to Darius Bazley. He showed some nice decisiveness on his drives and finished with his off hand. It was great to see. I'm still worried about his shot and struggles with turnovers and missing shots around the rim. He strangely air balls a lot of layups. But, last night he showed some things. I hope he continues it.

Now I'm worried about winning too many games again. lol

Bazley is struggling to drive and finish at the rim and go up and score after an offensive rebound. The defenders are just overpowering him and easily blocking his shot or stopping him from getting optimal position for a launch. I like his tenacity grabbing these rebounds and trying to score under the basket; if he can get stronger, hopefully defenders won't be able to manhandle him as easily.

Noticed that the attendance is down from the 18,203 building capacity.

Once the Thunder decides on the core guys to build around; hopefully fans will trickle back into the Paycom Center. The fans are required to show proof of a full or partial COVID-19 vaccination, or a negative test taken within 72 hours of the game.

As more fans meet these requirements, you will see some attendance bounce back. The high priced court side seats (most are empty). Corporate sponsors purchased many of these for employees. The pandemic has corporations tightening their budget strings.

Dropped to 28th in positions; Thunder use to be in the 13-14 positions among NBA's top 15 franchises. SLC, OKC & MIL were the leaders among the small markets prior to the pandemic. Also, the Kings, Suns, Clippers, Spurs, Rockets and Nets (Durant-Harden) are down from the previous seasons. Many NBA franchises are on the average 3,000 below their averages before the pandemic.

There's a lot of reasons attendance is down. Not only is the team worse (I think they're still fun), but (a) there are the vaccination/testing requirement (which even for people that want to attend is an additional hurdle) and (b) those who do not yet see it as safe to attend an in person game yet. In short, the circumstances are so unprecedented for OKC that it's really hard to read too much into the attendance numbers right now.
