I think the closest you will find, and even this is a REALLY long stretch, is me saying some license plate holders have a 'bump' at the bottom that will cover it up and someone else saying they hope the domain doesn't lapse and get snapped up by something unsavory.

It's funny...the last handful of posts have been people complaining about complaining...and some of that complaining doesn't even exist. I would say if you object to complaints, don't look so hard for something to complain about that if you don't find anything, you just make something up.

Is this site the only site you visit, because it's the only one on which I've seen any POSITIVE comments regarding the plate. Christ on a cracker, someone at KFOR tweeted about it being "fuggin' ugly" on their official Twitter account.

I think a lot of *general* frustration is being exhausted on this plate. Lots of folks who know we've got a slew of difficult problems, see something like this, and weigh the two - and say "we've got ALL these problems, and the best thing we can do is put up a new $5 license plate?" The arbitrary heaping of fiery coals on Fallin and/or the Legislature serves an emotional purpose, but not a very practical one - as if to suggest a different makeup of either would somehow have stopped oil from collapsing worldwide. But I digress.

No, I don't like the design at all, still don't, and if that makes me a Scrooge, oh, well, so be it. It's just so, well, soulless. But a fraction greater thought into why there's so much exasperation being vented on something like this would explain a great deal. In any other year, you'd have had at best passing notice, a "meh" reaction, and the next outrage du jour would certainly have taken its place.

But even then, I still wouldn't like that Blue Plate (Not) Special.

I totally picked up that it was a joke (and I thought it was funny, because it has indeed happened that a domain/800 number lapsed and was snapped up seconds later by the porn industry). Like I said, it's an insanely long stretch from that to "I refuse to support the site". A stretch I doubt a reasonable person could make, quite frankly, so I'm a bit confused as to from where the accusation is coming.

Seeing how you only quoted part of my comment, you may have missed the part where I said "here and elsewhere." And evidently you missed other portions...

Regardless, look at the time you took to argue and be contrarian because someone (me) said there seems to be unnecessary (or at least forced as a venue to vent towards the State) negativity towards a license plate.
Seems like at some point too many conversations reach a point like this. And this is when I take my leave of the thread. Have a good one all. Remember, it's just a license plate and don't forget to write your legislators! And be sure to read the entire post before starting an argument!

Even Google lost their domain name for a few minutes because of a software mishap. They gave the guy who bought it a few thousand dollars.

I personally just think TravelOK is redundant. The Oklahoma license plate itself is advertisement and Travel OK would be the first website that pops up if you searched Oklahoma tourism.

Now that the negativity is out of the way, the members of okctalk.com (a public forum dedicated to freely discussing issues that affect Oklahoma in general and Oklahoma City in particular) can get on with freely discussing issues that affect Oklahoma in general and Oklahoma City in particular.

I honestly just simply can't understand why people who object to open discussion come to forums dedicated to open discussion. But I suppose I never will. Back to the discussion, folks.

i realize it's probably too late to do anything about it now, but instead of negativity, how about offering up a solution instead?

maybe if enough people make some noise to the right people, something could change. probably not, but you never know.

My first thought was that this was a nod to the super conservative wing of Fallin's supporters who have absolutely dispized the Native American themes of our current tag, going so far as to sue over it. Gone is all Indian imagery and even our "Native America" motto.

The second thing that crossed my mind was how hypocritical our government can be; for a state that claims we haven't raised taxes in forever we sure are getting soaked in nonsense "service fees" these days. I simply cannot buy the public safety arguments I have heard a few government folks make about the need for a new tag. Could have reissued the same tag with new reflective coatings.

I like the design. Simple and clean. But it's funny how trends evolve when it comes to design. Sometimes 3d and textured, sometimes realistic, sometimes flat.

I figure if you don't like it, just like Oklahoma weather, don't worry, it'll change.

Since travelok.com has been a cornerstone of Tourism's (considerable) marketing efforts for a couple of decades now, I'd say it's pretty unlikely to happen.

A guy bought google.com, on Google's own domain registration site. If it can happen to Google I am sure it can happen to Oklahoma.

The real issue here is that this is a classic case of a solution in search of a problem. THe "alternative" was to just reissue the existing plates with whatever Magical Protective Super Sparkle Potion 3M decided was necessary to sustain their kickback fund (sorry, intense sarcasm and cyncism waves just intersected).

That's because it's the same font, Eurostile. It doesn't mesh very well with the rest of the design. If they would have kept the stylized Oklahoma text from the current plate I think it would look a lot nicer.

Money, some vanity plates are only $15. They want the full registration fees. Also, if you decide not to renew your vanity plate, it can go on the front of the car at no charge and your regular plate goes to the rear.

While I don't like our new plate at all, I wouldn't say that we're among the most bland license plates with the new design. I mean, we'd have some pretty stiff competition in that regard from states like California, Alaska, Connecticut, Michigan, New York... Both the old and the new plates are more visually interesting than theirs. And have you seen Texas' "Classic" plate, introduced in 2012? I mean, just feast your eyes on this tall drink of B-L-A-N-D....

Funny thing, I was just going to ask what is wrong with 'bland'. License plates used to be a slab of metal, one color for the background, one color for the lettering. I have to believe that's cheaper, so why not just revert to that by default, and the people who want their plate to be a work of art can have that option?

I agree. I'd much rather have a license plate that is generic, and then the option to purchase a vanity plate of your choosing. There doesn't seem to be a need to change the plate other than for new fees.
