Hey Hunt- On the form you submitted to run for mayor, did you register as a Democrat? Just curious. I asked you once if you were a Dem and you scoffed.

I wonder if the OK Co Election Board allows one to file for office as an Independent? Also wondering why the local Dems didn't put up a candidate? Is the local Dem party endorsing you?

The Mayors race in Oklahoma City is non-partisan. Something I think is great. Also, regarding the diploma, how about if I can't produce it, I drop out. And if I can, you donate $1k to my charity of choice -- Kiva.org

To be honest - I like corn dogs also. What is not to like about deep fried meat?

I have tried to meet with you in person on several occasions, however, you conveniently manage to have an "emergency" and cancel, is this how you plan to operate the office of Mayor.

Hunt, you should get with rcjunkie and meet up soon. You send so many PM's to others about wanting to meet people face-to-face and man-to-man that I am surprised you would decline his offer.

You didn't answer my question about the Democrat voice in this mayoral race, so I guess you are not their dude.

Just trying to help you make that transition from rabble rouser to respectable political candidate. And by the way, it is important for you to avoid culturally insensitive comments and whatnot. That stuff might get you some negative press.

What he said regarding the mayor's position being non-partisan is true. The Democrats nor the Republicans will have a 'dude,' as you so delicately put it.

Nah, just means their dude don't have to wear his (or her) heart on the sleeve. be it a more liberal heart or a more conservative heart, it does still react to its drummers, just beneath the surface.

    And that's a big deal.

You can't discount the impact of the name brand party in partisan politics. A non-partisan race has to be fought entirely on ideas and ability to communicate.

And what we need is a mayor with the ability to come up with ideas the city wants and to communicate them effectively.

That's a win in my book.

I don't see it as anything resembling a biggie. Unless someone lives, eats, sleeps under a rock, they know, for example, the incumbent is a fairly conservative leaning chap, probably 8.8 on a 1-10 scale, maybe higher.

Small hamlet or big city, it's generally not difficult to determine who is more conservative and who is more liberal in a n-p race.

None of this is a knock at the current mayor. I rather hope y'all reelect him.

    Neither is a winning choice.

I've seen little from Mayor Cornett that he has done wrong or wouldn't have happened no matter who was in office. OKC's council-manager form of government makes the mayor a "weak" mayor with limited powers to do things himself.

What is utterly amazing to me is that this thread is getting as much attention as it is. Steve must be most gratified by the honor being bestowed by forum member here. As has been said, "Any press is good press." That is all.

Well if anything this will be entertaining/informative for many. Just watch this:

About as entertaining as a hemorrhoid treatment.

I predict a very, very close race, probably a dead heat---until the poles open at 7:AM on March 2.

This guy Hunt doesn't know the structure for MAPS. He is prematurely talking about scraping the Convention Center to save jobs. MAPS money must go for Capital Improvements. The convention center will create jobs--there is talk of several high rise 600-1,000 room hotels being built in the vacinity.

Oklahoma Gazette (February 17) page 7:

    Excerpts...

"Oklahoma City, I believe, supported the first two MAPS," Hunt said. (Duh!...) "What I see now is a city that can be let on its own, but the direction I see the city taking is subsidizing big business. I want to cancel the convention center. We could save the money and put it toward saving city employees jobs."

Wow! Does this guy know city government or is he in for a rude awakening?

    YouTube - Sesame Street - Arte Johnson's lecture on Q and U

video on Steve Hunt--he definitely won't get my vote!

I keep reading about this Taco Bell connection and Mr. Hunt...but what about the REAL connection between Mayor Cornett and Taco Bell? Remember his spokesmanship for Taco Bell's healthier menu items (in conjunction with the Mayor's "This City is Going on a Diet" and other health initiatives). If one Mayor can have a connection why can't another? LOL

Well, one was a spokesman because folks trust him and generally think he's awesome.

The other scooped mayonnaise-like substances into deep fried tortilla shells.

If you think the two positions on par with one another, you're more than entitled to your opinion I suppose.

Not sure why anyone would trust him given all of the spin, half-truths and in some cases out-right lies to come from the Mayor's direction the past few years. But, like you said, you are more than entitled to your opinion.

And no, I haven't always been anti-Cornett. Thought he did a good job as Councilman. He was one of the few that voted against the Bass Pro deal and was against the selling of the Naming Rights of the Arena. he said we needed to be promoting the City (with the name of the Arena) and not some corporation. He was correct back then and that is why I voted for him both times when he ran for mayor. But given his switch since his landslide re-election win, he has become just another tax-n-spend, say anything that you think the voters want to hear, politician. IMO
