I think it closed in '68 but I'm not real sure...probably in '66....Some lady was K.E. Smith's Secretary and that's what she said to the people that lived across the street from her at the Lake...I think...But, Prunepicker can verify it for us....

It was still open around 71 or 72. I had a friend that, well he
was a friend until, we won't discuss it, worked there. I still
say it was called the Western Dip.

On Sunday I'll try to remember to ask K.E. who the secretary was.

The Western Dip at 51st and South Western closed sometime in 1964. K.E. Smith moved into HIS new building January 1st, 1966. The building was being built during the year of 1965. The secretary in mention is STILL his secretary, Bonnie Merrick! She was with him when he started in the Capitol Hill area. I think your referring to the Dip after it moved on South on Western. It was owned by the McGehee Lady that owned the original Dip and when it closed was called the "Burger Hut." I don't know for sure if she ever called it the Western Dip or not, I thought it was, but have been told otherwise...

Yes, the one farther south on S. Western. I don't remember
ever going to the the original. At any rate, we called it the
Western Dip and the Grease Pit. It may have been called the
Burger Hut but we never called it that. It was open until '71
    or '72.

I was thinking! When the Smith building sells and we open it back as a "Western Dip" Gen/64 wants Doug to be the Manager in charge and PenneyQuilts to be either a cook or a car hop! Does that sound just a little bit sexist? I just think '64' is trying to cause trouble, shame on you!!

Haven't heard much about the Grand Opening of the "Western Dip." Although, rumor has it that Gen/64 and Mr. Prunepicker are in deep negotiatons concerning "64" buying out Mr. Pickers remaining stock! I've been approached for my 51% by PaPaOU and Gen/70 but we can't seem to get together on a price!!

Man, I had completely forgotten about the "buy out" negotiations.....I went over to the site the other day and noticed a "greasy" spot and asked a guy walking wonder what that was and he began to tell me his side or version of the Western Dip episode.......He put Grape Jelly on his fries....that did sound too good though...

We'll have to double the franchise fee and have Benny the
Crusher collect it. That sounds reasonable. What do you
think? Buy the way, where's my cut of the month's before?
