Some things never change...check out the barricades and the torn-up streets and sidewalks!

Great pictures! I remember going to Beverly's, back in the day...
Biggest difference between 1972 and now? There are people in the 1972 picture.
Were you around downtown in late 60s early 70s? It was mostly very seedy and there were few people around. There is WAY more activity and life now. The stretch where the Biltmore stood was especially seedy with the Hotel Black at the next corner (the Hotel Black wasn't known for its architecture, btw). I remember a state YMCA function in high school where we stayed at the Biltmore and had huge problems in the lobby and the streets with hookers and drunks. You can pick another time to glorify, but this time frame was not a great time to be downtown.
Not really saying it was a better time or not. It seems that people were the problem then not what buildings were still standing. I wouldn't know since the photos are ten years before my time. I know there's plenty of older folks who actually remember that time. It's mostly for the younger folks. I think everyone who calls this city their home needs a history lesson and who knows maybe someone young will get inspired like I did seeing what their city used to be like. You have to consider the past when you move onward into the future. Perhaps it will give some new appreciation for what's left and what the city could be in the coming decades. The younger generations are who will carry the city into this century.
Not sure where to post this... Has anyone used this site?: WhatWasThere - Put history in its place! or historypin.com. Might be useful sites for preserving history...
Historypin seems to be much better. Looks like someone from Okhistory already did a bunch of them. They're some I haven't seen too. The high quality, non Oklahoma Historical Society watermarked images. This should help people get an idea of where the buildings used to be. This would have helped me a lot if I knew about it a couple years ago.
A few aren't quite accurate but you can post comments on each photo. Requires a Google account. Our StreetView is so outdated, Devon Energy Center has been planned, constructed and finished since the Fall 2007-2008 images were created.
Devon is such a wonderful member of this community! Kudos to them for their continued impressive work!
Interesting to note those huge ornaments will go in the green area between Devon and the Colcord, not on their large lawn.
Thought I would go a different direction with a Devon Tower picture.
Speeding through Bricktown on a Monday night...
It was Thursday, and I was going about 20 MPH.
This building turned out to be better than I ever could have imagined. And with those lights. And the Christmas decorations!
I'm a very very happy person right now.
Hopefully this building will not be the only iconic building in the skyline and it will be joined by others.
Guess so. Went right over my head.
