I think it shows the candidates are involved in games this weekend. Probably need to see who will be in playoffs.

We're still waiting on the dust to settle where OU hires a new head coach and a defensive coordinator.
SEC will be one hell-of-a conference for both OU & UT to compete; especially after witnessing Alabama's dominance over Georgia in today's SEC title game.
OSU has shown us that you don't need all of these so called high school blue chippers or top 25 - D1 recruits to put together a solid competitive football program.
Universities of Oklahoma & Texas would be well-advised to officially enter the SEC in July 2025 when we cut our ties from the Big 12 (Avoid penalty). We don't need to folk over $75 - $80 million to the Big 12 Conference by making an early exit.
The Big 12 Conference announced in September 2021 that Brigham Young University, the University of Central Florida, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Houston will become members no later than the 2024-25 athletic year.
Would OU & UT have made a decision to leave had Big 12 expansion been announced earlier to accept four teams before the two major universities decided to leave. What will be the fate of Bedlam following 2025.

Many national sports news outlets are reporting some version of OU having officials in SC this afternoon working out final details with BV.
Brent Venables has emerged as the leading candidate to become the next Oklahoma football coach, sources confirmed to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd. Venables, a former Sooners assistant, would return to Norman after 10 years as Clemson defensive coordinator, including four as as associate head coach under Dabo Swinney.
Venables is targeting Ole Miss offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby to oversee the offense, according to multiple reports.
If hired to coach Oklahoma, Venables would replace Lincoln Riley, who became the first Sooners coach to leave for another college opportunity since 1946 when he accepted the same job at USC.--CBS sports.
This was the Likely outcome from the beginning IMO. Don’t know at this point how I feel about it
I know exactly how I feel about it. BV was the best choice of anyone that was actually probably going to take the job. Former players can be a big help in recruiting and lots of former players have been publicly pulling for BV.
Many of the other coaches discussed were not going to leave where they are. Plus, I can't find the link now but I read earlier on either SI or ESPN that OU hasn't interviewed Fickle or Lanning who were supposedly the other two top candidates.
If BV can get Lebby from Ole Miss to come as OC this will be a home run. And I've read for years that BV and JL are buds.
Bill, You make my point quote: (BV was the best choice of anyone who was going to take the job). So the high profile choices were not as broad as reported. Not saying it won’t work out BUT I initially thought a current HC
If it's Venables as HC and Lebby as OC, who is the DC?

Can’t believe you would be negative about something. Yes he was the best option. Because the only better options are likely high profile head coaches at comparable programs or the NFL. BV is by far the best fit in college currently. The only reason he wasn’t a head coach yet is because he was extremely well paid as a coordinator, liked his job, and this was one of the few (possibly only) jobs he would’ve considered.
Bob Stoops was a defensive coordinator when hired. And brought BV as a co defensive coordinator. It will definitely work out.
Lebby would be a great hire.
Bv 2b ou dc + ou hc
This whole BV thing just feels right. As crazy as the last week has been with Riley leaving I can't help but feel we're actually better off than we were last Saturday. Lincoln knew his style was going to get smoked in the SEC and we just got the guy who has proved he can put a D together to beat Bama or anyone else.
I never thought I'd be happy to see Venables back, but it appears time heals all wounds. The Clemson fans sure seem awfully sad to see him go. It says a bit about his character that OU kind of did him dirty twice, in my mind, and he still wanted this job. First being demoting him when Mike returned (I was in favor at the time), second is not even being considered for the job when Bob retired (I was also in favor of Riley becoming coach at the time). He has passed on who knows how many head coaching jobs waiting for this opportunity. I think he might be the next 20 year guy at OU, especially if he has early success, like Bob.
That was a very good announcement event and press conference. I think his philosophy of it's all about the players. the players and the players will go over very well. He did say he'll be hiring a DC. Which doesn't surprise me but I will be surprised if BV's fingerprints aren't all over the defense. Going into the SEC with the defenses we've had lately would be a disaster. He knows that.
He did say that he's had a list lately of coaches he wants under him when he did accept a HC position.
