Oklahoma City MOA development downtown could add more structured parking and be a catalyst to attract more events downtown. Therefore, let's keep our vision focus on more lucrative developments like what will be the proposed new Oklahoma City DT arena to replace Paycom Center. Also a potential Aquarium where the OKANA Resort and DT are still the more likely spots where a development of this magnitude will be considered.

Los Angeles Clippers Stadium 6_15_2023
Broke ground: September 17, 2021
Architect: AECOM
Construction Cost: $1.8 Billion
Owner: Murphy's Bowl, LLCTotal - Square Footage: 915,000
AECOM would be a good firm for the OKC project, being based in Dallas.
Not to mention that he's building this in a metro that:
A) Is 9 times larger than OKC with thousands of more entertainment options both outdoor and manmade
B) Has 2 professional sports franchises in all 5 major professional sports
C) has another NBA team who's popularity GREATLY exceeds that of the Clippers locally, nationally and worldwide.
Even if Balmer wanted to get public financing for that arena...it would seem much less likely to pass especially given that the city wouldn't miss a beat if it lost it's second fiddle NBA Team. Arguably they would be better off relocating to Seattle or another city with no NBA Franchise despite building their own new arena.
If Ballmer were doing right by the public, he would’ve plopped that sexy new arena in downtown San Diego instead of Inglewood and switched their colors back to baby blue and orange.
totally agree, it should be in San Diego or at the very least, Orange County somewhere like Anaheim that could better pull from SD and completely differentiate away from Lakerland. ... Nets are in Brooklyn, completely differentiating from the more popular Nicks but still in the same market - BUT anyway.
Oklahoma City, the RENAISSANCE CITY!
Basically no one outside of basketball fans in Buffalo had any issue with the Braves being moved to San Diego and rebranded as the Clippers and outside of team history, they lost pretty much all connection to Buffalo with the rebrand. Sterling was twice denied his petition to relocate to Los Angeles by the league, still did so and nearly got the team dissolved altogether in the process if not for the court decision that allowed the Raiders to relocate to Los Angeles.
Wrong thread.
September 3, 2008 - 15 year ago, the Thunder were born.
15 years ago this weekend, OKC's NBA team was officially introduced as the Thunder.
Damian Lillard to the Bucks.
What the Buck! I don’t recall even seeing Milwaukee talked about in any of the trade talks. That’s going to be a crazy offense.
Harden to the Clips to join Russ, Kawhi and PG.
The Clippers are sending a 2027 first-round pick swap to Oklahoma City, clearing the way for the Thunder to move a protected 2026 first-round pick to the 76ers.
I like this move for OKC. Kawhi, PG and Russ are all on the second to last year of their contracts with next year being a player option and this is Harden's last year on his contract. Having a 2027 swap pick for the Clippers when OKC is going to hitting their prime and the Clippers are probably going to be out of theirs is a good deal.
Agreed, it is a solid gamble by Presti. OKC is setup to be competitive just through the draft for the next decade. And that is without taking into account our talented young core that is hitting the court currently.
OKC could be champions in the next 5 years.
Hypothetical question: if OKC has a great year and wins a championship or goes deep in the playoffs in 2024-2025, we would still have four 1st round (two protected, one swap) and three 2nd round picks in 2025, three 1st round (one protected and least favorable) and two 2nd round picks in 2026, three 1st round and two 2nd round picks in 2027 and a bunch in 2028 and 2029. We would have a great core that I would assume the management would want to keep together long term (SGA, Giddey, JDUB and Chet, not to mention CW, JWILL, Lu, Micic and OD). How would those picks come into play? I would assume bundle and trade for a better pick(s)? Maybe trade down in the draft for a first round at a later date? Maybe bundle and trade for a player? Any ideas because we know we won't need them all.
I think the benefit of having so many picks is having options. If OKC needs a cheap, young player as their payroll gets expensive, they can use their picks to select one or two players. If a star or good role player becomes available, they can use their draft picks to go all in and make a trade. If they want someone in the draft, they can bundle picks to trade and get them. If they end up having too many picks in a year, they can kick the can down the road by trading for a future pick with a team desperate for a pick in the present. Basically, all their picks just give them options as you said.
