We also use netflix and somehow my teenager has found dozens of sites that stream her favorite TV shows from her laptop to the TV at no cost. She hooks her laptop directly to our television and it works great.

Is this the phone service that gives you a recording at the beginning of the call? I am just wondering because I run into this often.

Possibly, but that is not the way I have it set up. You can configure Google Voice to play a message to a caller or in front of an inbound call.

I have it set up to work just like regular phone service.

Ooma's a good, very similar alternative. It's just more expensive. $140 for the initial box vs ~$35 for the OBIHAN 100, plus Ooma charges you $40 for the land-line number port (unless you buy a year subscription to their "advanced feature set,") while Google charges only $20 for th e port. Also, US and Canada long distance calls are free for at least the rest of the year.

Either is better than tossing $$$ to a conventional landline provider!

I went with NetTalk because the initial purchase was much less than Ooma at the time.
